Originals
how about hosting them on csdb aswell ? releasetype = original game.
then there's the problem of adding the software houses, programmers, and artists... something for csdb v2 ? |

I'd never seen that bob demo before now. Then again you could apply that to lots of demos for any advertising branding.. I do remember the guiness thing though. off the top of my brain
Deus ex Machina (drink logo)
Channel 4
(tv company)
the list goes on..
neither of which I would ever want to see removed.

Now i have to ask...If original games aren't scene related ...How did the scene get into existence in the first place. There were the supliers who suplied them to the cracker. And the first sceners if i recall correct were the crackers. So i have to agree with Oswald. The base of the scene was created with cracking. But on the commercial thing...If it was good (coding etc) and it was spread by the swappers....Well why not then. I thought that a demo was made to show what you could so i say the design and build count not the brand name. |

If you look closely at the early scene, you will see that one of the base foundations of the demo-scene was the compunet which was completely UNrelated to the cracking scene. |

Hmmm can't say nothing about that as i didn't have acces at the time. But nevertheless aren't most groups demo and cracking groups? Every cracked game had a intro infront of it etc. But it is a fact at least i had it that some cracks would crash after some level or point in the game. So it would be good to also to be able to get the original. Ok the point about software houses and game desingers...That's too much.I think that if we have acces to the cracked version there should also be acces to the original version. |

I would agree with Graham, they used to run articles in Zzap about compunet, I was aware of it's exsistance, just not all of us could afford massive phone bills and had to get new demos by swapping. I'm just wondering how many (if any) none UK based people who were on compunet..
if you think of the following for a start , a lot will associate them with compunet. dokk, ian & mic, ash & dave to name but 3 of MANY more.
Shortcircuit, not really. some would do both, other would be specifically better known for one or the other. It's a bit like a DJ and a producer for me.. some dj, but I know them better as producer and visa versa.
the only relation to games as such, would be people who worked on games coming from the demo scene, and there are plenty of them.
I think the demo scene was a good grounding for people to get presentation skills to add that extra polish. I'm sure game coders were looking at certain demo effects and reverse engineering them, that turned up in games.
I think in a few cases there were problems with a few games that others bug-fixed later. Some would actually go into details what they fixed. Maybe that was due to time pressure for release dates developers had and they did a rush job. |

The Compunet was not unrelated to the cracking scene, groups like Ikari (Nik), SCG, CCS were members there and illegal cracks could be obtained as well. This is at least afaik, for me being located in Germany I have no own experience using CNet.

the extent of compunet and that sorta thing r0ugh, was maybe people ripping game tunes/fonts to use in demos etc. unless it was home made games, (snowball sunday etc)
So it wasn't like normal bbs. Was more of a case of friendly rivalry, like ok heres a new effect.. then the next person would try to top that.
it wasn't like US etc cbase? BBS's, where they were more into games.
the names you mentioned were less known for demos, yes there were scg etc demos, but thats not most will remember them for.
