I use an XE1541 (http://sta.c64.org/xe1541.html) cable, Star Commander V0.82 (Star Commander V0.82) and a DOS bootdisk for these matters.
There are a bunch of solutions (perhaps much more suitable and/or easy), others will say more.

Starcommander for DOS, with an XE1541 cable.
cbm4linux for linux, with an XM1541 cable
cbm4win/gui4cbm4win for windoze, with an XM1541 cable
These days I add a switch to the cables I make so they can be used as XM or XE cables.... tis the best idea I find. |

I use my MMC64 with the disk reader plug-in and a MMC/SD-cardreader on a computer, which is quite the most flexible way, because it works on every computer that can read from a FAT16 formatted SD card.
The only bad thing is that the reader is currently very slow...
Okay, the MMC64 costs around 50 euro

64Copy V4.20 is perfect for that.
You can prepare your D64 with this tool and transfer it with SC or Warpcopy.

The best and safest way to transfer stuff is doing it via network in combination with a retro replay. You would use warcopy by graham/oxyron for it.
You can read/write discs without any hassle and have error-log/correction/re-read of sectors.
It needs a retro-replay catridge and the RR-Net for it. Thats about 100 Euros but worth every single cent.
No shitty troubles with sta-commander or some other dos-tools.

Yep,Star Commander works only under Dos.I tried this tool with the Win XP Plug-ins,but it crashed.
The fastes and best way is RR-Net. |
