Big Prizes at Primary Star 2004
Hi All,
I want to ask you all something.
I am willing to donate a big prize for the demo compo.
Say like a SX64/c64GS/SFX module with full size keyboard,
or something else like 50 euro, doesn't really matter.
What i want to know is, will these prizes bring more and better quality productions!! Because if i contribute one of these there must be at least 3 to 5 good demos!
Maybe also for the other compo's, don't know yet.
So give me your reactions to this question.
So will people go active again?

but primary star is a party in holland... and for every scener. not just only to mention those lazy old elite bastards from the antique x-party ;-) |

getting good contributions is tricky, floppy offers
wicked prizes but i think its more about certain
groups showing up to battle eachother. and we happen
to be in a good phase when several people have the
motivation and possibility to spend the needed time on making
demos |

i dont think primary star needs "better" prices. infact, i loved the prices last time. better have (a lot) of that kinda stuff that helps people to keep their c64 gear alive instead of a few "valuable" (as in money) things. pricing doesnt influence the amount and quality of releases at all IMHO - and it really shouldnt either. sceners with balls will release no matter what the prices are. |

It's not about prizes, it's about the competition. When there are no other good demos, there is no use in releasing your own product either. |

I don't fully agree.
If that'd be the case there wouldn't have been many opportunities the past few years.
It's true though that the prizes don't matter nor stimulate these days. However, we at the X-party organisation still think it's nice to give away something, even money (if there are any leftovers that is:). |

exactly the reason of our 4 year delay ;) just kidding.
How about a lapdance from the stripper for all the winners @ X-2004? That would get some old farts coding!

as hollowman said, the .se scene have been quite productive last year and as seen on this years floppy, now parties like lcp and floppy have gotten some attention from outside aswell, so evidently more ppl want to fight for fame and glory. |

You're hiring a stripper for X 2004? I really hope that was just a bad joke. |

Well, there were strippers on the old Silicon parties, so it's like a scene tradition ;Z |

Personally I feel that it's the competition itself that gives the motivation. Nobody does c64 demos for money and prizes. There are more lucrative hobbies. But, still.. it's a nice gesture, and I'm sure it'd be appreciated by the winner. But don't count on the amount of good compo entries increasing because of it.
I just hope other countries will experience what is happening in Sweden right now. Fairlight, Booze Design, Triad and of course WD are as productive as ever, and I'm sure we motivate each other. Sure enough to name our demo Motivation. ;) |
