Event id #1491 : C64.sk Cover Compo #2

<Post edited by CreaMD on 3/1-2013 11:24>

The most delayed compo sequel ever - CoverCompo#2 is finally here!

When: 1.1.2013 - 22.1.2013 (3 weeks)

Rules:

0. As with previous C64.sk compos. Compo entires will be published on-fly (in order as they come)
1. send your compo entries as SID files **WITH ALL CREDITS** to creamd@c64.sk . This version wont' be released until the compo is over.
2. Compo is *ANONYMOUS*. During the submission phase, only the uncredited MP3 version of the tune will be released. The name of the tune will be published.
3. Don't upload your entries anywhere until the compo voting phase is over (voting will be organised standard way at c64.sk). The voting phase will be closed 2 weeks after the compo deadline (which is at January 22. 2013)
4. Your tune must be a *COVER* version (or remix) of already existing music. Please, when sending e-mail provide also additional info about the tune. Credits, your comments (why you loved the original, or whatever comes into your mind). Thanx!
5. One entry per musician.

Hint: Make cover of your favourite "maintream" music. Chipmusic or mod covers are accepted too, and can be interesting if made well, but this compo is aiming on things you can hear in radio, or buy in music stores.

Don't forget: send your stuff to creamd@c64.sk with all credits included.

Have fun!

Quote: Well just look at the Crack Intro compo!

I prefer 1 entry per composer as well. This way a composer is forced to select the best of his possible entries for the competition. And deal with the emotional consequences. ;)

All in all, you can compete in both compos anyway.

And are you able to provide a mono lossless (e.g. the wave file itself) too?

Yeah, FLAC would be nice.

I'll get a bit nerdish here ;)
Just "192kbps" isn't enough info by the way, VBR is already a standard, and it's even important what preset in the encoder you use (not to mention which encoder, which is even more important, many encoders cut off above 18,5kHz as standard, for example). I'd suggest LAME with --alt-preset extreme which results around ~256kbps. That should be enough.

Wackee, talk to me like that :)
I'm a headphone-audiophile geek.
So 192 kbps is lame :) All the most important frequencies are just cut.

--Mr Ammo Btw, is there any reason to why some mp3s have 2 channels? And are you able to provide a mono lossless (e.g. the wave file itself) too?

That is basically my fault to have some of the mp3s are dual channels, because of the software I use for recording. It's been acting weird and seems to have an own of its own to either not work or work mono/stereo :) But yeah that will be fixed soon when upgrading to a new version.

As far as it comes to lossless etc. I am bouncing the idea back and forth. The main reason to keep the files in 192khz is to keep the filesize down, due I don't have unlimited space on my webhotel. Then I of course want to torture the headphone-audiophile geeks ;)
But we'll see about this in the future. I have kind of noticed some SIDs don't erect as good as they should... so the future will tell ;)

Yes, you're right there hence why I consider to dump the mp3 encoding and upgrade to a more modern format such as FLAC.

Oh by the way is FLAC a free format or do I need a special "common creative" license for it? (I know it's opensource and all that shit and yeah freeware or whatever it's called;) don't lecture me with that basic crap! :-))

PS.I've done some experimental recordings with FLAC, as well and yeah sometimes FLAC can get smaller than an mp3.

CheerZ :D
