Recommendations for sad SIDs (tearjerkers)?
Hey everyone,
Getting stoked for X'2016 yet?
I am, and that made me think about the X music compos.
I can't remember who composed it, but a couple of X parties ago, someone entered with a tune that was just incredibly beautiful and so eye wateringly sad at the same time, but I can't remember which tune it was. It might as well have not been a compo entry now that I think of it...
And of course I could scour all the X music entries, but I'm also curious: what is your favorite sad, sad, SAD SID that makes you cry like a baby when the emotional wheels are coming off? |

Indeed.
I was hanging out on IRC on a regular basis with Waveform. Then he disappeared. I later found out he had terminal cancer.
This crushed me to no end. At work I started playing these harmonies on a keyboard (I owned a music store at the time) and it evolved into a song.
I wanted him to hear the track to support him in his struggle. Memory eludes me but I do believe he got the word I was making a SID for him and he liked that.
He never got to hear the final version. I was completely crushed over this for quite some time.
Emulation won't give this track a fair chance, I'm kicking the shit out of old school analog synthesis knowledge and using very slow filter and ringmodulation etc to slowly move through harmonics matching the octaves in sync with the patterns so that the song opens up slowly. This is lost in translation on any emulator.

Ps. Hmm, maybe this text would be nice in HVSC STIL? |

For sure it'd fit in STIL, Thomas! Thanks for sharing this sad story.

I think this really hits the spot http://csdb.dk/sid/?id=48459, evokes so much feeling (for me at least). |

Eventhough it is a Deep Purple cover, I find this one quite powerful: Soldier of Fortune |

Definitely. And since we're right now at covers made by Death Sector musicians; this Ozzy cover by TBB springs to mind: You're No Different to Me |
