Downvoting, for what reasons?

Seems I got two inverse mega fans. They gave me a set of 1 point votes.

I was a bit interested in finding out who that was, since I've never heard of them or seen any posts from either of them on CSDb.

The votes in question are registered to Auslaender and abracadabra, which is perfectly ok, if they think I suck...

At first I just clicked the abracadabra link and some pretty empty profile with a picture of a magician showed (refered to a guy call Mira, too!). I thought, hmm, strange.. Maybe someone who'd like to conceal himself or something... Didn't think much of it to be honest.

I wasn't untill another one showed. Auslaender!. Strange handle, but then again, we're strange people most of us.. I wonder who that is!.. No profile, when doing a profile search.. Though I'd search the forum for posts, and .. bang... All my indifferent discussions with Nata showed, only Nata showing as Auslaender!.. Sigh!.. Why?.. For what use?.. I don't get it.. He can vote me all the way to the bottom of the list for all I care, but I'm really disappointed.. I hope someone else hacked his profile or something, because that would mean that I didn't misjudge Nata in the past.

i wasn't actually making a point, just a poor joke... personally, i'm pro transparent voting but i doubt it's going to happen.

With regard to transparent voting, perhaps we should ask the CSDb community to vote on it. Of course, we'll have to work out if the voting on that would need to be transparent.. oh bugger..

Bizzmo: There was a poll a few years ago, not sure what happened with that.

I usually believe in privacy, but for CSDB, transparent voting system makes sense in a way.

Well.. the main problem with public voting is the fluffy cuddly nature of our little scene these days.. there is no real competition anymore, no need to boast and, lets face it, we’ve all become grownups. Most sceners would give each other non-stop 8, 9 or 10 (ehm.. come to think of it.. that actually is the current status for many releases).

I seriously doubt a lot of people would have the balls to openly give a release that they think is crap a 3 or 4.

Think about it for a second.. I’ll not name any specific releases but take a look at graphics. High marks for many pieces of work.. and yet only in the comments field do you find remarks such as “hey that face looks weird” to be quickly followed by “but I still think it is cool”. What the f#?

The scene is mostly just a flock of sheep, a nice portrait of the real world, most of you never badmouth others.. heaven forbid if someone would call a release by a known and longtime scener pure crap.. and only unless some poor bloke offends a few respected sceners.. then you all jump on the bandwagon and are ‘brave’ enough to call someone a lamer or downvote regardless of the production.. sigh..

Having said all of that.. I would support an open votes structure even though it probably means groaning a lot when I see the vote results.
