straight from YOUR playlist
if you encounter a piece of sound so great you want to hang yourself for not being able to write something of similar quality...
if you think you've just found the best music ever made...
if you think a certain song/tune/symphony contains some unusually awesome elements...
...and you want to share it with other c64 composers and not necessarily via your facebook wall, just do it here.
explanations, reviews and so on warmly welcome.
one link per day max.
have fun. |

Interesting finds!
When writing, I like the slow pace, dry beats, Yasmine's superb vocal skills and overall crisp sounds of the album Enta Fen by the Lebanese band SoapKills. Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLZvk03K1wY or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmwkFt4k2kw for an introduction. |

Dane, please do! very cool, particularly in the beginning.
and i knew it's Joshua on the sax even before i checked :)
from me, a longer rant, sorry :|
the thing that makes me go WOW the most is: making pop music while employing non-pop methods of composing. strangely expanded chords, frequent modulations, dissonant - in a contemporary meaning - harmonies, rootnote independent basslines (also polyrhythms, unusual time signatures, modal approach and so on). yet used in such a clever way you often don't notice those methods upon early listening! teenage girls - skirts up, critics and hipsters - foreheads down. numerous beatles, beach boys, steely dan, xtc, jamiroquai or radiohead songs fall under this category as i know it.
however, one of the most extreme examples i am aware of comes from my own country. it was a hit, even if rather a minor one. so full of harmonic oddities that when a simple c minor (with c in bass) starts the chorus, it sounds like the strangest of them all.
still, it doesn't prevent anyone from perceiving the song as a standard slow rock ballad.
by the way, lyrics are almost equally brilliant, but they happen to be in polish ;)
