Save Us - shameless plug, but it may be of interest
(as this is not exactly a c64 release, i can't put it on the c64.sk news page. so i thought i'll let you know here.)
should you have a few minutes of spare time, check this single, to be first spread on this week's WOMEX world music fair, recorded by a newly established band named Save Us. the lineup is:
Maja Kleszcz - vocals, cello
Wojciech Krzak - violin (both from the BBC-awarded Warsaw Village Band)
yours truly - c64 programming
just like you may suspect, everything besides violin, cello and vox was prepared under GT and recorded from a real breadbox - without any external effects applied, except for some slight eq during the mixing phase. (of course there are overlays; you'll hear 4-5 sids simultaneously instead of just one)

Fantastic!!!!!!! Drums & Bass & Pads are all top notch!
Although I agree with Steppe, that woman maybe could do some fine-tuning on her vocal frequencies. ;)
Randall: Is this why you haven't been doing much for c64 music compos this year? apart from Silesia v1.0 of course. |

i think that sid part and the rest sound like different stories. mechanically put together and kinda artificial. not this time mr hoffmann :P each part separately is brilliant, though :P btw., this lady sings in very peculiar way - i hear it's rather polish but sometimes i have an impression of sanskrit sung by an indian :D |

Ok checked it. "wesele" - very good sound but arrange is shutting my brain off. The "marysia" has a bit simpler melodies but suffers from the same problem, it's too complex. In general. Interesting experiments that are too complicated to become hits (for general crowd) which was probably intentional anyway. Still I think it is a pity because soundwise it is a TOP class material. |
