What's stated in this mag is a vastly kinder version of what everyone else is saying on various scene chats. That FIRST rules change was like someone's mom got mad and yelled out the window that no one could play in her yard unless her kid "won". The SECOND one...lol... she done ran outside to chase off anyone who didn't hear her the first time. But don't worry little guy, you can go back to "winning" now.... but you just may find no one else is really interested in playing in your yard.

Didi calling Propaganda biased is like Jazzcat calling the kettle black. What a joke.

Some context, from RapidNews #22:

New "The List"-rules since 1.1.2022

As we already wrote in the last issue, new rules for the First Releases-List was voted in the end of 2021. The reason was the flood of first releases in 2021.

2,x points were given for all the not released old freeware ganes and budget games even gained 3,x points. Budget games were games in the lowprice segment and those which were available on paper and diskmagazines in the 80's and 90's. 3,x points for small 4 block games from the german 64er magazine for example, gained half the points of a fullpricer. It was simply time for an overhaul.

It was clear to everyone that fullprice games must get more points than 5,x, if freeware gets at least 2 points.

It was also requested by some to increase the points of budget games from 3,x to a higher rating.

Furthermore, it was agreed whether there should be a period of time for freeware and budget, ut to which full points are awarded and whether text adventure stat were not created with Gamemaker should also get points.

The most critical vote was about treating freeware, regardless of age, like previews with immediate effec. So with points from 0,1 to the maximum of 0,9.

The most votings were almost unanimous. However, it was more for a huge bump from fullprice to 9,x instead of 7,x. The budget game were also increased to 7,x instead of 5,x.

In our opinion, the problem became even greater because the the vote on the future scoring of freeware fell with a narrow majority on the decision to treat them like previews in the new year.
On the one hand you can get 3 times points for 3 previews of a game and you don't even need any trainers.

For the full release of this game you need a proper version with a trainer. You can await awesome 0,9 points in maximum like for the preview. Crazy, or?

There are fine games like Puzzle Bobble. Much effort but only 0,x points. Games from magazines like Commodorolympics or older former budget games get 7,X points now. I had aldread compared games last year that would get less than 1 point this year (Pac Wor, Shock Raid, Straight Up) with those of poorer quality that would get twice as many points in the future as in 2021.
A look at the release charts shows this shortcoming.

It's totally okay that text adventure will be given the same points as the category they belong to.

But the rules regarding freeware is totally absurd. We in Excess hope that there will be a new vote in the future. We believe that we are not the only ones who do not like these rules.

Jazzcat had already initiated a new discussion in early January, but at the time only a small minority wanted to change the new rules again. We hope, a new vote will come before 2023.

Quote from the comment-section, by Didi:

"News & Gossip part regarding First Releases and their Rules is biased and reflects only one point of view, but that's what I expect from "Propaganda" so it follows it's roots very well. ;)"

Please feel free to elaborate.

Meanwhile, discuss the matter in small groups, centered around the topics: "What did happen - and why?", "Why should quantity, not quality (or even a middle-ground) be promoted?" and finally "What purpose should a release-chart serve in 2022?".
