Release id #47893 : Phobos 8580 + GT2 Source

Hi!

What do you think about 1:1 conversions?
Constructive comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Whatever gets your noodles baked i say.
For my part, i dont really see the necessity.

If you had done a cover in 'Your own' style, i would happily cheer for you.
But in this case, my enthusiasm is little.

But thats just me.

The main scope of such 1:1 conversions is to port certain songs into a different player (DUR -> Tracker) and "emulate" them as accurate as possible.

And of course fixing filters for the 8580 and improving filesize/rasterime is nice too.

Try doing 32 channel XM -> SID instead.

Sure, why not? Using only the relevant sounds & the usage of many arpeggios should help.

Dane has a point, if you convert 32 channels XM (And I dont mean 16 channels of layered chords, because that's an easy arpegio conversion), it's a lot more fun to find the right accents and put them in 3 channels. I did a few conversions of my own 32 channel XMs to SID, some (Can U See a 8580) were quite difficult (and the SID version doesn't sound very good), because I used various melodies and drum layers at the same time in the original.

btw, BAMU, you're a purist, what you think of the 2 tunes (I think I mentioned it before somewhere) by Reyn: Deadlock tune 2 and Dutch Breeze: The End. Deadlock in MoN player, DB The End converted by Falco Paul to the 20CC player. (without the use of SIDDump (but with original Turbo Assembler sources, I suppose))

To me it sounds quite good. :)

I think te most difficult thing is to convert 'real' songs, where you can't look into the module.
At the moment I try to convert the italian version of T.S.of.B.W -> really hard. :(

I'll check it with SIDDUMP.

but with original Turbo Assembler sources

I suppose this is more accurate?! (& easier to convert?)

Checked now. It's quite accurate. Btw. nice tune!

Reading/converting SIDDUMP output isn't that trivial as some people maybe think.
