GFX-preconditioning for conversion

At the moment I'm fiddling with some interlaced gfx mode. In order to create some 'proof-of-concept'-release, I need gfx data (no wonder;))

For this I would like to use a convertor. As the convertor tool only outputs nolace pictures I was thinking about preconditioning the gfx in the following way: take a given BMP, omit every 2nd pixel column (e.g. the 'odd' ones) and "crunch" the other pixel columns to a new bmp of half x-size. Do the same procedure again with the 'even' pixel columns. Convert both BMP separatly and glue the resulting C64-pictures.

Does anyone know if such kind of other-platform-tool exists that can 'skip' pixel columns (or pixel lines, or even a given pixel pattern) of a given BMP (or similar gfx formats)?

you just need to resize to 50% and then to 200%, only make sure the editor will not optimize the picture. to get the other columns crop 1 pixel.

Another way :

draw some vertical lines in photoshop in another layer (by copy/paste you can double the amount of lines each time you copy). Then you can make a selection of only the color of the vertical lines, switch to your gfx layer and copy the odd/even lines separately. (then you can move 1 pixel, and paste, et voila : a picture with only odd or even lines)

You can try this tool if you've already done the VIC-palette matching: http://sites.google.com/site/doynax/deinterlace.zip
Just feed it the name of a BMP file on the command line and it should spit out a pair of images (e.g. *.bmp => *_lace1.bmp + *_lace2.bmp). Or drop a file on it in explorer.

some video editor software should be able to extract odd and even field(s) like that.

then again, you can probably code such a tool using less keypresses than it took to write your initial post :o)
