The Mighty Bogg Shoe 2008
I've done a remake of my old tune "Shoe" using new fangled PC multitracking software. I can email to anyone who wants a copy, or upload to the forums if someone tells me how I might do this....

Hey Bogg! i think you hold the record for releasing the first musicdisk. (Bogg album 1).
As they said, upload to remix.kwed.org
There are places to host your music, like scene.org ! |

Thanks for the reply! I haven't owned a C64 for over 20 years now, so any remixes I do will be PC based, but they will be my old C64 tunes.

Just tried uploading to the remix site, what a pain in the backside that site is, my upload was rejected, I may try again when I've got more time :(

Hi there Bogg! Nice to see a past musician here, especially from England :) I always loved that Chicken Song you made using samples of chicken noises, really funny tune!
I'd like to listen to your remix too... my email is at my profile. Also take a visit at http://www.commodorecomputerclub.co.uk/ if interested.

RKO may not be the best and friendliest of all places when it comes to uploading tunage. just upload it somewhere else and post the link for that matter.
so, do you have any plans on doing any new c64-related work? no matter if it's it done on an actual machine or an emulator, i'd sure love to hear and see some fresh work from you. :) |

Bogg
I think RKO only allows 128 kbit mp3, and you MUST fill the fields of credits correct, else FAIL. |

Yeah, tried 3 times now, have re-encoded my file using different MP3 software, its 128K, 44100kHz, I got the right link to my original sid tune on HVSC, but no joy, rejected every time. I'll find somewhere else to upload and post a link! As for doing new actual C64 stuff, its unlikely, I managed to find time to rehash a tune I'd already made, but making a brand new tune would be tricky. I don't even know what software I'd use these days, if I used a C64 emulator...

If the upload page instantly rejects your MP3 then you most likely have made a mistake somewhere.
I've uploaded quite a few remixes to RKO in the past couple of years and never had a problem.
Ive had some remixes rejected, but that only happened after they had been reviewed by the RKO staff.
If all fails, try asking Jan on RKO via email what the
problem is. He's usually a nice chap and will answer.

rambones, if you just said "Ftang! Ftang!" on it own I'd remember the music disk just from that. hehe
one of the first demo's I ever got after getting a 1541 and it still stays in the memory after a silly amount of years.

I have added the samples to the sids, so they start with the words, then music plays. Just one of them somehow refuses to work, maybe i have to re-rip.. |

Goat tracker could help, yeah. Having a tune from BOGG in "The Last Compo (TM)" would make a nice finale ;-)
... ah yeah I remember you don't like me puting that compo on spotlight all the time ;-)) I'm sorry for that. I'm just extremely sid-music obsessed... |

I do hope we aren't referring to my dreadful speech samples from Bogg Album 2. A dumb-sounding 18 year old from the North of England thinking he's funny using Monty Python titles for his tunes. Is there an emoticon for cringe?

The thing I remember most clearly about doing Bogg Album 2 was making the 3D rotating BOGG sprites by hand. I think the balloons from Frak were floating up the screen as well. I've not run it for a while as you can tell, only to listen to the original Shoe whilst taking notes for the new version. Spot the deliberate pun..

The start seems flimsy, but its a nice tune with good sounds! but it's soft, where's the action ? :-)
What instruments did you use Graham ? |

I know what you mean by soft, I couldn't get punchier sounds however I tried. The instruments were mainly Polyblit synth VST, with others by Musynth, arranged in Mulab. I wanted to do it all on legit freeware, and spent so long fiddling about with the sounds I got tired of the damn tune, so its as good as I could get it.
Sooooo many people say they prefer the original SID, and I know what they mean, but its my 1st go in 22 years, maybe I'll try another sometime....

Hey Bogg.
My first post here..
I gotta say... 99% of all c64 "remixes" sound like midi files. The tune might be good, but the instruments are extremely lame. What makes SID good as an instrument is that it has a unique, vibrant, punchy character... such as an SP1200, Yamaha DX7, Roland SH09/Sh101, etc, etc, etc.
That is what all these "c64 remixes" do not have.. and that is why I don't like em.
Like I said though, it sounds like a decent tune, but for me it needs to be made with better gear if it's to match the sound of sid. Goat tracker would probs work too.

To Bogg: With a musical talent, and 22 years passed - I can imagine that ideas or desires pop up.
I hope this is a new beginning! |

I tried Goattracker about a year ago. If and when I do any more tunes, it will not be with Goattracker. Things have moved on.
Maybe I didn't use the best software and synths for Shoe 2008, but I'm not going back to what is basically DATA statements!!

Bogg: try Renoise. www.renoise.com
it's a tracker. samples/midi/vst - easy to use, powerful, outcompetes many expensive large sequencers. |
