Suggestions for releasing needed
Hi,
I have finished my very first SID-Tune. I just need to tweak a few minor issues, then it is ready for releasing.
In your opinion, what would be the best way to release it, apart from putting it here on CSDB of course?

Yes, I get around that by detecting the SID in my playroutine and setting alternative instrument values.
Maybe it's just my SID that's kinda broken. In general, the tune sounds well on both 6581 and 8580. (With appropriate instrument settings)

most ppl will listen to it in vice / new sid emulation anyway, or in a sidplayer, so I wouldnt worry much about real sid differences. ppl didnt back in the heydays anyway, so... record it into a YT clip and spread that if you are really concerned :P :) |

What player/editor do you use if I may ask?
Waht channel do you use the filter on?
And what is the FiltTab StartFQ and Filter Mode? |

you can move to 8580 sidmodel much better filters and kind of a standard for recent musicians . i don't think you should get tweaks especially for it apart from listening it from your editor. as far as i know what Oswald wrote is true , a lot ppl listen emulators like Winvice or from Sidplayer.
still a lot of the ppl don't have the real hw , and even if you get the real hw not absolutely you will test it neither |

A few really care, but those who do, support both SIDs. Even back in the day - Mathematica for example checks SID version before the start. Newcomer does, and I recently even saw it on Pirates from Nostalgia, where I would have expected ingame tunes sound all the same on any SID. :) Sorry it's a litte off-topic... |

I do care about how my songs sound on other ppl's hardware. I can compare on my C64s, and as soon as the filters are involved, a song sounds totally different. Maybe you are right and most ppl listen to SID-Music on PC/Mac/whatever, but there's plenty of old hardware in the field, way too much to ignore it from a composer's view.
I want to release my song primarily for the ppl who run it on their C64s, and that's why I put a hell of an effort into my player. (it diffs the songdata depending on the SID, you can switch during play etc.)

for old sid you'd pretty much have to provide a user-tweakable filter setting if you want to achieve the same sound on all machines - a couple of games actually did that back in the days (look at "beach head II" for example) |
