SIDDump 0.1
He, he, really nice Idea!!!!!
I testet a bit around with SIDDump 0.1 and can say, that it works fine (SID->GT2), but it's a bit badly structured - or is something wrong with my command line window (-cmd- under win2k) ?
Default output-time is 60 sec. but somehow i can't go back to first frame and can't see 3th voice+filter settings.
I had just a little view on it, but I think (sorry) SID2MIDI text output is for now the best solution to convert wavetable/filter... to GT format, since I take only a minute to convert a ca 7-frames wavetable + ADSR/pulse/filter-settings to
GT2.
However, hopefully in next version there will be a text-output and a GUI -?-

Quote: Yes... but
1) Timing and order of SID register writes can make a big difference (especially in hard restart and attack of notes)
2) Why not just play the original .sid? :)
But, if used a buffer? |

Quote: Yeah I thought so too, judging from your songs & instruments :) SIDDump is maybe nice for checking the occasional drum-wavetable or something but things shouldn't (IMO) be taken too far...
Well, GT2 Example song -Phobos- uses only ripped instruments - mainly converted from SID2MIDI and improved by SIDDUMP

In theory there could be a few SID-write order presets and they would likely work for most of the time. If the original playroutine also used a buffer, then it would work better (as writes are very regular in time), but not all do that. But still I don't understand the need for a playback feature :) |

I will think about a good reason for a playback feature. :) |

Ok, my idea is: the siddump txt output acts as a file format
like a *.sng.
The "siddump-player" (maybe with a GT like interface - but in there
you only will see the content of the text file) allows following things:
- edit all parameters on the fly; and play them back.
But why the playback feature? Let's think this "siddump-player" has the
possibility to mark frames and just in some clicks you can playback a single
channel (if the others are muted), or just single frames.
You allways can exactly HEAR that what you SEE. (even if the audio playback
is not so good) - It is somewhat like a extended analysis.
SIDplay2w doesn't allow to mute channels (only the old versions). But you never
can analyze the sound exactly if you use two different tools.
A "siddump-player" would probably be more accurate and bit more imformative.
