There's probably nothing wrong. I can imagine that tool executes the playroutine of your song and caches the generated data in huge tables until the memory is full.
The gain in speed just goes at the expense of memory consumption. |

Then, the tool isn't useful? |

Yep. The player first 'streams' music to ram, then plays it like:
lda music,x
sta d400,x
That can only be a few seconds.. :-)

It doesn't use much r-time though :) |

Hmm, think a bit what you would achieve with REU, tens of kB's wasted when the original music takes maybe 4kB... Even with a fastloader, the music would take a looong time to stream from the disk -> pissed off users |

Hmm... this reminds me of a tune used in a Megastyle demo which uses the same technique.
Afaik, it was a tune by J.O.
But which Megastyle demo...?
Hmmm...a part with pic of some Emperial Guards (from Star Wars) pops into my mind now...
R.
Edit: Found it!
It's used in Megastyle's demo Piece of Cake 3 (Piece of Cake 3)
"Rastertime eating tune" by Henning Rokling.
Indeed, the part (2nd part, with the double megadycps) with Darth Vader+Guards.

I once did a special player which I think makes a good compromise. I called it 'microtracker' and it takes up to 4 or 5 rasterlines, and the tune gets around $1800 long, though the possibilities in that player are ofcourse a little limited. As far as I remember I did one or two tunes with it (in turbo-ass ;-), 'micromania' or something... |
