hoxs' sid engine in goat tracker?
recently, on a few occasions i've noticed that resid isn't enough to emulate numerous 'tricks' properly. thus i paid my attention towards sid engine in hoxs' emulator. it boasts pretty decent fidelity in the area of filter emulation and sid tricks. hence my wonderings - what about goat tracker employing this engine instead of good but not flawless resid? i know that gt is written in c, i don't remember if hoxs also is. the next problem might be the fact, that, so far, hoxs emulates only the 8580 model. i wait for opinions from musicians composing with gt and, what is the most important, from cadaver and david horrocks ;) |

im not into composing atall so i dont know lot about the whole process but would that be helpful to have an option to launch hoxs with autogenerated sid file? either the whole tune or selected patterns to see how they sound. that would be a viable solution but dont know how useful it might come. |

i was more thinking about automating this- means generating a temporary sid file and launching Hoxs64+autostarting the sid file would be 1 click away. nothing close to instant but much faster than now (requires you to save the sid file first, then launch the emulator and then select the file in the emu your self). |

btw, if you really want to stay closed source, what about making a dll that exposes sid read/write the same way as hardsid.dll does? that way it would work in GT (and any other hardsid supporting app) without changes. |

according to assiduous my recent tunes sound on real thing the same way as in hoxs. hearing mp3 of my chems' cover i believe him ;) my c64 is connected to plain tv thus (also sound output comes from tv set) i cannot enjoy the magnificence of sid in its full glory :/
my coding skills are incredibly poor and moreover i don't have c compiler :D |

lol what a competent and thorough analysis substantiated with so many examples. why dont you just say that the 8580 sucks instead ?

very close but the perfect emulation is yet to be achieved. i know of 1 minor filter bug and a small inaccuracy in digi-noise emulation (will be fixed some day). |
