Ok, I shall try
Ok, I can try another tracker than Cybertracker.
But which one is the easiest and most like Cybertracker?
The bad thing about Cybertracker is that it has very small patternmemory.
Which tracker do you recomend? And is the patternmemory larger on that one?

Depends ofcourse if you want to make your tune on a c64 or on PC.
If you want to go hardcore retro on a genuine c64 I'd suggest this one:
EMS V7.03
SDI or the JCH Editor could be a little complex for a less experienced musician.
However... Using a c64 editor in an emulator on PC is IMO not a good idea. For emulators, though very good nowadays, are not perfect concerning timing and filtering. If you want to edit on PC use Goattracker or Ninjatracker. A dedicated PC editor with RESID 2 emulation. (or even better, with HardSID!) That's the closest you can get for now to the sound of a real SID.
(Jeez Do I sound serious and lecturing. Please take no offense and see it as good advice. :) |

Actually the 8580 emulation in GoatTracker is decent. Basically you only need to remember that the filtered sounds are somewhat louder on the real machine. |

I was assuming that VICE and Goattracker share the same emulation engine?

I want to create on my 64.
Not on the PC.
I will not sit by the pc and create 64-music
Is SDI easy to understand and I can create on the 64 with it?
Do EMS have a packer and a executable funktion?

Stainless: They do, but in VICE 6581 emulation is decent as well (with resid-fp, thanks to selectable chip revisions whereas the 6581 emulation with resid-fp in GT2 sounds nothing like any 6581 I've heard). |

that's the spirit dude! but, to be honest, you don't use filters in any way that would exclude emulators due to the inaccuracies. unless you really hate emulators - i know such a few guys and their music is not necessarily better thanks to that :P |

If you prefer a tracker style environment (I assume you do) go for either SDI, JCH or maybe SID factory. *I* would not recommend to use EMS or DMC. |

I recommend: JCH, SDI, Sid Factory... There are other good ones ofcourse.
SDI is probably takes a bit more time to learn and get used to, but it's definately more flexible.
JCH and Sid Factory are somewhat the same type of editors, with the possibility to load different drivers/players.
Learning to handle sound programming can ofcourse take a while, but as others mentioned there are example tunes.
Furthermore I guess more of us will be happy to give some hints on how to do certain sounds and so on. The SID is a very simply synth chip, but still very flexible thanks to the many great music routines available :-)
Good luck with choosing one or more editors to explore! |
