First C64 music compos?

Heyo, another history questions for the oldies!
When were the first music competitions in the demoscene?

Seems CSDb is lacking stuff in that division, with only one C64-music compo before 1990 (with one entry by JCH).

reading from the STIL in HVSC regarding Turbo Outrun:

One nice, very nice note: 'Turbo Outrun' (the music) has won the:
'Best music on 8bit computer 1989' award (at the PCW show (now ECTS)
in London. :D Too bad I had to find out later. US Gold received the
actual award. Bastards! I wasn't even at the scene when it was
presented. :(

but maybe that does not count since Turbo Outrun was a commercial game and not scene production

Not exactly a music compo. Magazines, and commercial shows had awards like that for games. Scene related or not, Chris Huelsbeck won such an award quite early in the 80's with his work "Shades", that got him a job in the business. I have to add that Shades is a really good tune by Chris.
Moz(Ic)art's tune Luminous won the music compo at Shape+TRC party in 1989. I'm not sure if that's early in the scene.

Maybe it's because the music compos weren't considered interesting and thus not archived, but it seems like 1992 is when it started happening with The Party, etc. There's no info about the Shape+TRC music compo for example, Geir. If it's not in CSDb it didn't happen! :)

There were plenty of Amiga music compos before 1992 though. Funny, I thought it would've been the other way around. http://www.exotica.org.uk/mediawiki/index.php?title=Category:Pa..

You should enter this info, Geir.
1989 is very early for a music compo, and i have no knowledge of others from that time.

F.ex the Dexion party 1987, and Triad 1987, and Danish Gold 1988 - all 3 big parties in their time, had only demo compos. Also no gfx compo then..

The only one I remember is the ZZAP64 one that we all know.

I only existed on the fringes of the "scene" :)

Since there's no other answers. I have to ask: Was the SHAPE+TRC Party the first one to arrange a music compo in the scene ?
