New categories needed...
Hi all,
considering the trend towards absorbing dedicated C64 compos in general "oldschool" or similar compos, I guess we would need at least something like "Mixed graphics", "Mixed demo" and "Mixed music" competition categories... For tUM 2006, there have been 3 releases, and they all have to go into one category, although they were not competing with each other...
What do you think?
Cheers,

As nobody seems to bother about that, I come with another (useless?) suggestion. How about categories for Intro-GFX, -Code and -MSX? They are never mentioned in the credits for cracks, but I would consider it quite useful to see who did the work for an intro - even if the intro was used multiple times (then that should indicate good quality... ;) .
What do you think?

Well, I'm often interested in atleast who made the music for a crack intro |

I consider the normal gfx/msx/code credits sufficient for crackintros. |

select * from releases where type=crackintro and music=drax
done. absolutely no need for crackintrocode crackintromsx, etc. |

Well, fact is that cracks here in csdhb normally don´t have *any* credits for the intro (only for cracking/supplying/fixing etc, meaning the actual work on the crack itself), whereas spriteeditors, fonteditors, diskmags and whathaveyou _do_ have credits for everything. And a crackintro is normally not a standalone release. So?!

would make more sense to have a crackintro release type, and being able to link it to the release. or a link to crackintros.org |

I agree that something like "Oldschool Demo Compo" is needed, because "C64 Demo Compo" implicitely says that only C64 demos competed which is not the case on many of todays parties. |

Agreed, although I wouldn't just include crackintros. Many demo groups used their intros for several different productions as well. |

Well, a crackintro is not a release on its own, so why put them into this database? Apart from the fact that you would have to add all of them here.
And on intros.c64.org I did not see any credits for the intros, so it does not make sense either - if I have to download it to see the credits, I can download the full release as well and see for myself.
On the other hand, I am not opposed to just add credits for code/gfx/msx for the intro to the cracks, but as of now nobody is doing that. I still somehow find my idea somehow practical and handy... |

I know the problem very well.
Take a look at these..
I thought about code, gfx by AEG
but as Excess released these preview all could think Introcode by AEG..
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=5138&show=trivia#trivia
To make things really clear to all,
these categories i would like to see..
Introcode:
Intrographics:
Intromusic:
Code:
GfX:
MSX:
All around then know what's up...

Hell no!
Introcode, Intromusic and Introscrolltext is useless.
When will the Intromusic be released as Music only - when ripped apart and used in another intro?
This is just stupid. Preserve whats left, dont go adding new values to stir up the database even more. |

Take a look at Intromania by Nostalgia..
Sometimes Intros choosed and linked together because of the artists.. (Music, Code, Gfx)..

Now as Assembly 08 is over and I have added the (very few) C-64 releases, this problem raises it's head again.
Our extreme / oldschool categories are not C-64 specific, so all the entries for the C-64 go to the Mixed category in CSDB.
Why not add Mixed Music, Mixed Graphics and Mixed Demo?
Thanks! |
