download links
I know, not first priority. But i'd like to get the csdb admins opinion about making the 'add download link' public.
Especially when locking all records, it would be a shame if new links aren't added or get broken without being fixed. There aren't any disadvantages are there? |

Better late than never. ;)
I also would like to see this option. Could you just let people add download links to closed entries?

I totally agree on this one. There are quite a lot of locked entries with broken links which is a pity. |

Yes make this feature available PERFF :)
it's a shame to see a locked entry with a broken link.

Hmm.. :)
Have you tried to contact the maintainer of such records?
I know it takes some extra time to do so, but thats the way the system works.
If nothing happens you can always turn to me. (or some of the other admins) :)
In general when a record is locked, its locked. It should be up to the maintainer to be sure that the info is correct and full. Possible helped by some mails/PM's from other users.
However this is only rearly the case. :/
But for now I will not make such feature. Sorry. |

Hmmmm indeed ;)
It takes extra time the system works now.
Uploaded CSDB and FTP links are pretty save, but personall webpages for instance pretty often become unavailable after a few months, and then we have records that don't have a link yet.
Right now when you have a file of a crack, demo etc. in your collection it's impossible to add it yourself to correct or complete a record -> without bothering other people with (useless) request.
if you unlock the links it will only improve correctness in the database.
pls consider it again |

there is a 2nd way:
Post a GOOF comment with the URL to the corrected file and people who have Maintaining Permissions (apart from the original maintainer) can correct it. |

Btw: "Error: You can't add a download link to stuff in csdb." Why not, actually? If you have several releases in e.g. a party-disk, wouldn´t it be useful just to copy and paste the link in the individual entries? Or am I missing something? |

I'm not sure I understand what you mean??
Could you try to explain a bit more? |

When you copy an existing link from a csdb-release and paste it as downloadlink to another release, you get this error message. Hmmm, is this half way understandable?... |

Just upload it 2 times. CSDb will detect that it allready has the file, so it won't waste any space on our server. (the files has to be excatly the same ofcause)
So if you have a disk with 10 releases, just upload the disk 10 times. |

Sorry dudes, but that's a bit weak. It takes quite a lot of time uploading a file 10 times, while copying+pasting a link would be much faster.
What's the reason for not allowing the link anyway? |

Basically it's not illegal to make a link to an url like:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/getinternalfile.php/XXX/somedemo.zip
But it is not allowed to make a link to something like:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/download.php?id=XXXX
So some time ago I fixed this - however I only check if the url links to something on noname.c64.org/csdb, which means that the first url also falls under this category.
This was not intended, but I havn't heard any complaints untill now, so... :)
This should be fixed now. |

Bullshit. I think it's far more important to have a (as) complete (as possible) overview of the releases our scene produced. Downloads are a plus but should not be required.
And let's say that I know of a certain demo but haven't got it myself. Still me entering the information here in csdb might trigger somebody else to upload the file.
Wouldn't that just be snazzy? :) |

I'd like the feature to search for demos that has no download-link so I could easily upload missing files. |

Such feature now exists.
Hit the "Browse" tap on top of this page, and browse releases having no download links. Check the box in the () next to the disk-icon. |

Wow, 128 pages of releases with no download link! Ugh! Much to do... :) |
