Breaking up huge forum threads into pages

Would it possible to break up huge forum threads into pages (f. e. with a choice of post numbers per page in the user menu)? Some discussions are just enormous, and since posts are appearing in logical order (id est, up to down) it is a real pain in the ass to wait several minutes for an appearance of a 200k+ page every time I'd like to read the latest posts. Nevertheless, after a long loading, it may be quite annoying to realise that the new post has nothing to do with the topic, or it contains a huge quote and a one word answer, a greeting, a link, etc...
An alternative solution could be to show the last 10 reactions, with an option to list the whole thread (like on C64.sk). Or/and to show posts from down to up, so the loading could be stopped with the browser.

... 9 posts hidden. Click here to view all posts....

Yeps Perff, that's the way it should work. And of course leave an option to keep the old way of thread display for those who liked it.

Thanks for your reaction, I love you! \:D/

@Hein: easy, if you set 10000 posts per page, the forum won't be broken into small parts.

I think I love you even more \:D/

Actually, something went wrong as it should show the latest posts when you click on a topic title.
At the moment first I have to click the previous link and then the next link to see the latest posts.

@Oswald, I think there is a new feature in your personal settings.
"Update your forum-settings".

Hmm... now with the paging, the Hidden posts thing just gets annoying.. Can I already disable this somewhere? Otherwise, please add an option for that too ,-)

The currrent 1+10 scheme is a pain in the ass when you click on a link from "latest forum posts" to a thread that has more than 10 new posts. You have to manually type &showallposts=1 into the URL to jump to the start of the new posts.
