Major redesign of the DB interface
The user interface for maintaining the scener/release/group information is IMO quite painful and very cumbersome.
When adding new members or releases to a group... as logical as it is from the database structure point of view to just create connections to existing items in the member/release/group tables, a real improvement would be, using the group editor as an example, adding separate functions for
- assigning a release already in the releases list to a group
- adding a new release to the releases list and associating it with the group under which we are adding it
- the member equivalents for the above items
To make this even more useful, a separate search window for quickly checking if an item already exists, or alternatively logic that does some checking (for duplicates) when adding items to the database, would be more than welcome.
Similarly, the same functionality for creating and adding items in the scener and release editors would speed up the maintaining of the info considerably.
Furthermore, editor navigating needs improvements - navigating between different editors is a real pain in the ass. At least shortcuts to different editors are definitely necessary, or at least a mechanism that opens new windows WITH THE NECESSARY EDITING FUNCTIONS ONLY, would make the overall usage a lot friendlier. Yet another option would be letting each editor be aware of the path of choices which led the user to this editor, and when editing is finished, return to the parent item on that list. Edit group -> add release -> add credits -> back to add release -> back to edit group.
Just some suggestions written under the influence of a lot of caffeine and frustration over the user interface.
