Privacy - partial solution
Suggestion for CSDb engine:
Don't display personal data as E-mail, phone and snail address to unregistered (not logged) visitors of the page.

And how will this solve the privacy issue? Because even logged users can become potential spammers.
So yes, it's a first step but I still think that the 'sensitive' information should only be entered by the scener him/herself.
I know a lot of your personal data was taken from that scener-addy-list (S.A.L. if I'm correct) and as far as I know, it is illegal to use data collected by other sources if those sources didn't make it clear that such a transfer could take place.
Me, I don't care too much, but if somebody does, they'll have a pretty strong weapon to force you to remove data or even stop the site. And don't think that you won't have to take care of this because you're only a small site, them be the rules ..
Hey, after working in the internet bizz for over 5 years, I'm bound to pick up some stuff :) |

Tested. Works well. ;-)
TDJ, it's just a partial solution, but it will at least remove the automatoons from bizness. |

I know that isn't a complete solution, and I see the point in that the 'sensitive' information only should be entered by the actual scener BUT! how do you do that?
It could easily be done so that it's only the maintainers of a record which could enter/edit sertain information, but who is gona check if the maintainers of a record are qualified to actually be a maintainer? (That they are who they claim)
If something should be done about this I need some more concrete idea than just "let the sceners themself enter the information"

I guess that the csdb users are somehow connected to the scener table, right? Based on that I think it's very easy: only if the maintainer is really the scener himself he can change the 'sensitive' information. Meaning that every csdb user can only change his own information.
If the csdb users are not connected to the scener table, then I guess you'll have to change that first or at least make a cross-table or something. |

Well, this is all assuming people don't use someone elses identity or create some unentered sceners identity/handle. This is so hard to get perfect. |

well duh... if I join some forum and post your ex-boyfriends address there, noone will stop me from doing so initially either...
what is needed is: a clear rule stating that noone is to enter that kind of sensitive information about others than himself (and no, claiming "I got his permission" doesnt count), that everyone has to actively AGREE to when entering the database for the next time... you know the drill, textarea with fscking long text to scroll down for minutes, I agree / I disagree buttons below and all that... and then actually linking the login handle to the database entry...
this won't stop people from logging in with two or three different handles, but it will
1) make people more aware of the problem
2) will stop them from "accidentally" adding sensitive information
3) will need more time and trouble to maliciously adding data
4) will put the CSDB maintainers on a safer side when it comes to legal issues |
