Exotic Computers

I know there is a subtitle "the c-64 scene database", but maybe we should tolerate vc-20 and plus4 also ?

I was looking for some unexpanded vc-20 demos and found INCREDIBLE pieces!

Whaddoyathink, shall we include vc20,+4 demos ?

Hi Zed. These are all three totally seperate scenes. Some things may bind them, but that's also the case with pc. we all make demos, about 90% of the users inhere won't care indepth information about these scenes. The line has to be drawn somewhere, and imho it should stick to c64 related only.

We already had a long and winded thread about it. I wouldn't object at all to include the smaller brothers of the 64, but obviously some guys feared that those two hands full of demos could somehow "dilute" the database...

You got my vote, no question. Anyone?

Hi Shake,
sure these are seperate scenes, but they are tighter together then the pc-scene and the c64-scene.
There are some groups, which do stuff for the C64 as well as for the VC20, for example.
From a coding prespective, the scenes are very close together, we all need to suppress the NMI!
But since this have been discussed before..
Maybe CSDb could really do a Vote about this, and if there are enough Pros, I will enter "Robotic Warrior"/pwp!

Hi guyz!
Dunno, who much activity is there for the VIC-20 or was and the releases for it released in the last few months were mostly from C64 groups/ppl (CNCD, Mermaid, etc.) and I don't think these demos won't spoil the CSDb... But the +4 scene seems to me quite different and there are much more releases than for the VIC, so I wouldn't like them here. Beside, they already have a nice page (plus4.emucamp.com).

i don't think the c64, the vic20 and the c16/c116/plus4 scene are "totally seperate" as Shake said. the vic20 scene is mostly just a bunch of c64 sceners so i'd say it's very c64 related.

the plus4 scene is a bit different to that because it has/had a demo scene on it's own, but still it is very c64 related for multiple reasons:

first, a lot of plus4 demo people spend their time on converting c64 demoparts or trying to make their demos look like c64 demos (by simulating sprites or trying to play sid tunes). you will find a lot of graphics and music from c64, and often also whole demoparts.

second, the plus4 itself is a very close "relative" to the c64. a c64 programmer can learn to code on plus4 in 15 minutes. it's definitely the computer which is most similar to the c64 (except for the c128 ofcourse which i count as a c64 platform).

and a third reason would be that many people doing stuff on plus4 also did so on c64...

for me it is ok to keep all those demos together in the same database as long as you can easily filter them out. in my own demo database i also have vic20 & plus4 demos included.
