New "released at" criteria requested please
I would like to propose a new addition to the "released at" field on CSDB entries.
the new tag being COMPUNET.
it seems a viable and currently missing release location to me bearing in mind the volume of 80's demo releases that were released to the scene on that network.
I have spoken already with CreamD on this subject and he is fine with this addition, and indeed has a few more ideas along the same lines for BBS's etc.

You are indeed right. compunet is integral to the scene's history.
Released at doesnt really say it all. So if there would be a way to make a compunet entry more clear then please give suggestions, but for now the event type is cool. |

Okej, good look finding out which board got the first releases uploaded first..
Is this really a big matter, add a comment that this was originally released on COMPUNET? |

I never were on the COMPUNET, but I shure would love to have been on there in the days... that were something I later found out that were huge in the history of the commodore 64 and a very important factor to form teams that really created good stuff on our beloved one... I think STE are totally right, this should shine as it is really important, very important... some of the earlyer demos from software companies that later became big huge and massive were from this network, a lot of games were created on this network and a lot of demos, some of the greatest artists coders and music factors were on this, it did play a big role in the history of the software industry and it were something marvelous.
Should be some entry about this as it sure is history important. |

no the whole point is, that this is a database. and databases are there to be queried.
and one valid query could be "all demos released on compunet by xxxx"
or "all cnet demos done in 1987"
currently there are no facilities for this but i can tell what was released at some tiny party in xxxxx in 1992 which hardly anybody went to.

from a database point of view, the way it looks now it would be easier to just replace all occasions of "compunet" in the queries with "ste'86" |

go back and look again.
i have personally added over 50 netters as "attending" cnet in addition to adding my own and meanteam releases i have also added Bob Stevensons, Dokks, and SIRs so far. anyone else who would like to chip in instead of being a sarcy fcker please feel free. |

I'm still a bit doubtful whether Compunet really should be an "Event".
I understand there's currently no other viable option to do this but it just doesn't feel right. |

no i agree,
it should probably classify as a BBS.
BUT you cant tag a release as "released at" or "released on" a BBS.
if that was added, the data for the cnet entry could easily be migrated to an entry for it as a BBS.
until that time then "event" is better than nothing, and from a personal point of view CNET was definitely an "event".

If CNet is classed as a BBS (which in my opinion, is), then "Released via" might be the right word? But again, didn't it have its own database? I'm only reading up on it via wiki, even if that place is riddled with false info. ;)
Besides, how about "released on C64"? ;) it's the equivalent to downloading a file on a PC/Mac, isn't it? |
