Demo Makers and Future Writers

I'm not sure if I brought this up before, but...

Are Demo maker and / or Futurewriter style "demos" wanted or needed here? After reading through some of them, they are pretty inane and many are from unheard of groups.

Whatcha all think?

I think the key here is whether they are interesting or not. A select few such productions might provide an interesting historical document on the "lamer scene", but a whole crapflood of 'em? No thanks.

Well, right now I only have a dozen or so of them (the rest are still on floppy, untransferred) so I'll belch a few of them up once I get around to it. Thanks!

If they where released and spread, I see no reason why they shouldn't be added.

If you have it and you think it's worth preserving and sharing, by all means post it. I defy anybody to point out the harm.

Demomakers-made-demos (..) are one thing, but Futurewriter-made-notes? Do we really need those? And if so, why not all the millions of 'normal' notes that were written? Maybe I should scan the hand-written notes from my contacts I still have left and enter those as well?

What's the harm you ask? What about database pollution?

Well, Future Writer releases typically (at least here in the States) involved rag war related content... IE "That group is a bunch of fags" kind of stuff.

Same with demo maker stuff. "Theze guyz are lame, here is a crappy picture I drew in Koala Paint."

I'll bump up one of the more laughable ones so everyone can see it in context.

I think all releases belong here, hand-written notes on the other hand aren't releases.

What's the difference between a personal note on disk & a personal note on paper, apart from the obvious ofcourse?

I didn't say a personal note on a disk belong in CSDb any more than hand-written ones. I did however say that I think that all releases belong here, notes released to the public or similar.

Some examples:
Supermessage V1.0 - Made with El Stocco's Scroll Editor.
The Triad Letter - Possibly made with Sodan's writer.
Contact Relax !!! - Made with TSK's Movie-writer.

All these are correctly included here....and there are many more. I have a fever & a bad cold right now so I don't feel like searching for more :)

There's also a big amount of demos made with demo-makers by f.ex. Gollum, D.S. Compware etc consisting of a tune, a scroller & a bitmap picture. I believe they have the right to be included here as well.

Well, I put a couple of the funnier ones up (Anarchist's Manifesto and Stronghold). I'll see what reaction they get before I upload any more.

As I have finally been able to start saving my collection from about 400-500 disks I have from my C64 days, I too come across a lot of these kind of demos (and am guilty of producing quite a few)...

I wonder since the discussion does not seem to have really ended up in a set of rules or an agreement on what to do, has anything been said about this elsewhere?

From the arguments above, I may be the creator of a few nice examples for the discussion:

My C64 group back in the day, Exotic, was never very active but in the end we managed a proper demo or two and even cracked one or two games. So I believe Exotic has a place here.

But I also made a few lame demos with demo makers, some with little more text than yet another members and greetings list. These do shed some light on who was with Exotic at the time (although I didn't date the demos very well unfortunately) and who we 'knew' back then. So would you consider them of enough historical value to have me upload them?

I also came across three Future Writer demos by a group not mentioned anywhere on CSDb yet: Thijs Cracking Crew, probably formed by Thijs himself :) The demos each seem to be made by a different TCC member and greet roughly the same 8-10 people each time. Doesn't look like this TCC did much more, so should I add these or not?

yes, please also add the 'intromaker' demos..your group has made real demos too, so also the bad ones should be added, they are part of their history.
