CSDb SID forum

Mh, probably this is not a brandnew topic, however...
I guess we need a new CSDb forum for SID discussions only: musicians take a large slice of active scene. What d'ya think about?

A SID forum is a good idea. I think why we have so many musicians is simple. It's so much easier to make a tune quickly instead of fullscreen art or asskicking code. Trust me. I'd like to see musicians releasing even more music and not just the random compo entry twice a year. Whatever happened to music collections?

Not enough good coders left to code them.

well, not really, but i remember spending hours on figuring how it would work, and then i always ended up asking others to do a decent screen for me. =)

Dane, dunno how much time you can spend on SID. Mine is quite little, hence I could probably be in the "random compo twice a year" party, though I'm not particularly happy of this... About "Cycle" trackmo: stop the Mrs Ciccone's sh*t! :D

SHe's star martiaL.

Good coder to make a music collection? I found music collections great for novice coders as they are not normally complex. Probably why I have made a few. Look through the Speed code, nothing good about it.

I'm sure many coders could create an ok music collection in a few hours.

Really, I'd thought about a CSDb music collection in order to launch the SID CSDb forum, where all of us have to attend: from Dane, Smalltown Boy, Hein down down down to Luca :)

I mostly had to code a demo, to get my music used.

A SID forum would be great.

There are so many things that can be exchanged.

Fuel for the next generation musicplayer and great sounds etc. Co-op compositions etc.

I am SO looking forward to X-2004!
(my first C64 party in 14 years!!!)

You mean some lunatic freak is sitting at home with 28,000 previously unreleased SID songs, waiting for this compo to appear? *shiver*

Hmm, I think a good music collection has unreleased tunes in it as well, so hvsc won't score that good :)

At least a good practice in harmonics.

I have sent unreleased tunes to them, by Deek, Prosonix, Reyn, Jeroen Breebaard, Jeroen Tel, erm, my own unreleased (for a good reason) tunes.

I think HVSC is the ultimate music collection, and I appreciate the (dull) work they have been doing for quite some time allready, pitty about the old fashioned website though.

Upcoming releases will kick ass aswell, ofcourse, new and unreleased sids are kewl.

Sorry, but I thought a "compo for music compilations" (as the participants, not entries) would end up as the one with most songs wins, thus judging by quantity rather than quality. How would you rate quality anyhow, by going through each song in the compilation and give an average score, or by setting a limit of X songs to include and you choose which "team" of music you want to line up?

"compo for music compilations" sounds great. Maybe I can release those ++ collections Ive already coded during the years for musicians that never finished their tunes.. :)

Just to make things clear: what is the definition of a music compilation? Is it just a bunch of tunes thrown together? Or should there be some kind of part from which the tunes can be loaded?

Also, are there rules to what kind of tunes can be in that compilation?

Just newbie speculation, but maybe something along the lines of 5 named "real world" musics, 5 named original C64 tunes and 5-10 named genres or styles. Then make one RW cover, one C64 cover and 2-3 original pieces selected from the genres? Or only work with original pieces, if that is a preferred form of art.

I have no idea what constitutes a music collection. Every now and then I will just release a bunch of tunes. HVSC seems to be the only ones who notice.
