When and how was interlaced graphics introduced on the C64?
*sigh* (since there still no tag system that would help me answer this question)
I am wondering, when and how was interlaced imagery (and more importantly, IFLI) introduced on the C64 scene?
I remember FLI Interlace as the first IFLI I've ever seen (also the first instance of a single release IFLI in this database), which was a huge deal back then, and I was drooling on it (mainly 'cause of the tits, but the graphics mode was really impressive either), but I'm not sure if it was the first interlaced image on C64?
Anyone has a bit more info/insight on who invented it, and how? What was it based on? For those who were active back in the days it got out for the first time: do you remember how was it perceived generally? |

I think this was the first interlaced gfx I saw on the c64: Interlace
[edit]I guess that's the one Oswald mentioned as well. :)[/edit]
There was an editor made as well: Interlace Painter V1.0 Fix |

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Hollywood Poker Pro one of the first GAMES to have interlace graphics? (in terms of pixels rather than just colours). Other than the Radwar interlace demo, I don't remember seeing anything else that had interlace pixels. |

Wouldn't interlaced rasterbars be the real origin of this? |

So-phisticated III by Black Mail is often credited with being the first demo with FLI back in July 1989

"Twinky Goes Hiking" used interlaced lowres graphics (the Firebird-logo) in the intro way back in 1986. Can't recall that I have seen anything earlier than that. |

So-Phisticated II also used FLI, with some info about it in a note. Again, no interlace though. |

I recall seeing interlace rastebars quite early and remember Super Swap Sweden/Horizon interlace colored sprite effects.
Eldorado (Origo Dreamline) had some fresh interlaced graphics. I recall that CLF wrote at least some pixels of the pictures straight to the memory as there was no editors available. That stuff was new then, there still could be earlier IFLI. |

Cruel Cruncher V2.0
Highly unlikely to be a first to use interlace raster colours, but well known I think. |

Jazzcat made a list of "World Firsts": http://www.atlantis-prophecy.org/recollection/?load=world_of_de..
With a disclaimer: "Of course there will be many things missing from here and it does not have to be just demos, games had effects too! If you notice anything strange or have any additional reaction and can back it up with hard facts, please give me an email: jazzcat@nospam.c64.org" |
