Lastest C=VGA News....
okay i just found this... the latest news about c=vga project(use pc monitor with c64).... i just wanted to share this with you guys/gals, if anyone missed this little bit of news...
Quote:LATEST UPDATE - 26th February 2007
Hi everybody, updates to the C=VGA page (and all the other pages here too for that matter) have not been foremost on my job list recently :-( I am still in the throws of sorting out the mess of all the refunds from orders relating to Maurice. Unfortunately I am only one person and as I am having to do extra work to refund people I have had to put all thoughts of Commodore related matters to the back of my mind.
So, whats happening with the C=VGA ? Well, after a spell of not being able to contact Neil about the project I have finaly managed to have a chat with him and simply put, he no longer can continue his work as his time and expertise are needed elsewhere - BUT - that is not the end of the C=VGA. This is what I have planned, in May I am in Florida on a family holiday, I will be collecting all my Commodore stuff from Neil and any stuff relating to the C=VGA and bringing back to the UK with me. Between now and then I am having talks with two or three people to see if it is viable to continue the project and get it finished this year. If nobody is willing to finish off this project then it will be cancelled and all money will be refunded to those who contributed over the years. On a personal note, to see this project fail would be a huge blow as I have spent a lot of time and a huge amount of money and hardware on it. Also, if this fails I will have the added hassle of refunding the money, most of which has been spent on purchasing components, software and all the other bits and pieces that go into such a project.
So, by the end of May 2007 we will know one way or the other if the C=VGA will be completed or terminated. Here's hoping !
Note : I have just tried to send everyone on the email list an updated note but the list is corrupt (yet again), I can't be bothered to rebuild it for a fifth time so all future news will be made here unless I can find a recent working email database.

lets hope the c=vga becomes a reality and not just a dream.... |

yeh good point, the dell ones (i have one) take component and composite. Have not tried it because i have no cable for the c64 to connect it up, but it does not look that supernice (hooked up ps2) at least component. |

the PAL blending is inherent to the pal-signal, not the display. If you would decode the PAL-signal to make a VGA signal out of it, the blending would be there automagically, simply because it's a 'flaw' of the way PAL is encoded.
Ofcourse on normal tv's you can have additional blur too, but this has nothing to do with PAL, but with lousy tv's ;) |

I recently bought an LG TFT monitor/tv combo. Quite nice picture from the C-64s and Amiga. It takes in scart + composite + svideo and also syncs down to 15kHz horizontal/50 vertical on the VGA port.
I'm pretty happy.
The only problem is that it's 1280x1024, meaning 5:4 instead of 4:3.. Then again, the Amiga / C-64 resolutions aren't exactly 4:3 either.. ;-)
Oh and naturally the TV tuner is useless with everything going DVB these days. |

The PAL Amiga is 5:4, so that's perfect!

Hehe yeah or 5:2 without interlace. :-)
Oh another minor issue about the monitor - no possibility to finetune the picture. If it's not centered, then you can't do anything. SCART shows a centered Amiga picture, but it's a little off to the right when plugged into the VGA connector.
The C-64 fills the screen well with S-Video, haven't tried it with a VIC-20 or the C-264 series yet, but I doubt it'll be much different.
And since I didn't mention the model.. LG M1721A |

It's been almost 10 years, but can't you adjust the screen's position in the Amiga prefs?

Sure!
But still, the whole overscan area doesn't get sampled by the scaler. :-)
I'll have to experiment some more with the SCART connection, I was mainly playing around with S-Video and the VGA input.. Time to buy some compact flash cards for my A600/1200.
It is quite a minor issue, but worth a note if someone else decides to get the same monitor based on my description. :-)
Edit: oh and yes, you *can* adjust the image position after all.. I didn't receive a manual with the unit so I downloaded the PDF and finally read how to use this thing. :-) |
