The step towards CSDb v2.0
Quoting Oneliner16:59 - Jayce: time for CSBD 2.0 ???
Here's an idea for CSDb v2.0, in the current light of harassments and awkward behaviour:
Convert the current user database to 'you can read but you can't write'.
Then introduce a re-subscription with moderator approval to gain full control.

You like to have all the +3800 accounts revamped and started all over again, just because a few ppl cant behave in here?!
A team of moderators is in the making, to clean out useless threads and posts.

i'd still say that every account (ie everyone who is allowed to add stuff and post in the forum) MUST be linked to a scener profile.
another thing that won't ever happen |

Good moderation should of course be impartial, meaning you wouldn't get away with more things just because of who you are or what you've done in the past. You guys prepared for that? :) |

I believe there was site where the 'revamped' 32000+ accounts (www.tweakers.net), because they joined two databases.
When somebody logs in, just show him/her a message that one needs to click to regain approval by (a team of) admin(s).
Surely those 3800 clicks aren't the problem, as not all of them log in within 24 hours...
But ok... if not, then what cadaver and hollowman said. :-) |

Here's another idea: No timeout for forum posts. Just lost another one. :( |

yeah that's problem of session expire..
You can click browser "back-button", then forward and confirm form repost. It should submit okay then.
--------
Explanation what happens when you click "back": 1. you are logged back to csdb system thanx to cookie (if you have permamanent logon enabled). Then your re-post attempt works because you are logged user again. |

@CreaMD: I think I have tried that before, but the form was just empty when I got back. And I have permanent logon, so I don't know why the cookie expires to quickly. |

Yes, then you have to push FORWARD button and explorer/firefox should ask you if you would like to repost form data (some kind of error message appears that page is expired and can't be refreshed without repost..) |

Another idea for improvement - show group name, release date, etc. in search results instead of only demo name. |

Yet again someone comes up with an idea for a new voting system - this time it's me/war.
How about this:
Everyone can/must have a list of his favorite 10 (or 20,...) releases, coders, ....
So i.e. demos which are in the most top-lists rank highest.
This will totally ignore releases that are likely to be in noones top-list -such as mine :(- but what the hack; noones interessted in worst-of-charts.
This way you cant downvote!
You can hardly upvote even.
Also, most prominent releases/people will get their fair share.
Also this approach would deal with the hype of new stuff. Only the best will remain when the top-demo-list per user is limited to maybe 20 entries.
Man, I love my idea!
Go for it :)
EDIT: maybe this should be put in a new thread - its been a while since the last one about voting *g* |

Here's an idea for the search engine...
How about including an option to search for particular forum threads? Because there are so many threads been created, it is much harder to find the right one to post one's message on. You notice on the main page that seven on the currently popular threads are viewed. However when someone adds a post to an older/new forum thread, one of those visible threads are knocked off the list, which can sometimes be annoying if someone would like to post on that thread. (Hope that wasn't too complex.) |

look in the drop-down menu above the search box... that feature exists for quite a while now ^^

Some hard :) or not so hard idea:
1) Maybe some activity events will be useful,
for example check adn vote on the demos of a year.
2) Voting only after download (for demos, picture can be seen by screenshot)
3) Scroll text extraction of the demos, so it will be searchable. :)
4) Youtube video of the demos. :))))

(1) - was already done in the past
(2) - so if I copy a demo on a party, I can only vote on it AFTER I downloaded it? I don't really get what this would result in
(3) - what a fantastic idea, now why didn't I think of that? ;)
(4) - not a bad idea - I know it's one of the things I use on pouet most (but ofcourse that's because my pc sucks so it's the only way to keep up with the releases in that scene) |

Aha! So it does... must of been added a while back.
However it isn't included on the Advanced Search page, so maybe it can be added there. |
