X2008: no bed?
What basically has happened here is that the organisers have overbooked the event.
1. The website promises for 70 euros we get a bed, shower and food.
2. The website urges to register early, to be sure of a bed and not be denied entrance at the door.
Now, I get an email today in which these clear rules were changed during the game. (you don't do that)
Now, my registration does not count any longer, and beds are distributed on first come basis.
I seriously do not like that.
You must have rented the farm (+beds) for costs, that are include in the fee. We expect to have a bed for that money.
It is not our fault you overbooked the event. Perhaps you should have switched to a larger site while you still could, or, if you could not, closed the registration and find a larger site for next time.
Yes, I may be picky, but I just wanted to have this said. ;) Nothing wrong with sound arguments, even though it's not the end of the world. :P

Hello,
No need to worry, each time there are a lot of people
signing up for X and the half of them don't show up.

I seriously hate it when people don't wait for a response from the organization and run to the forums immediately.
it does *not* help your case. |

Not this time, because the line-up is really cool ;)
[EDIT]Burglar, then we both seriously hate something! I'm sure there is no real case though. |

280 registrations, shit..
that's even more than last time, right?
oh well, we can always sleep with the cows \o/
the only thing I expect for the 70 eur is to have my chair stolen during every compo, to find some smelly ass dude sleeping where I planned to sleep and to wake up with a serious Grolsch headache and no more food available... oh yeah, and a massive amount of data insanity and outrageous party spirit!
see you all there :) |

Oh, don't be such a mama's boy! Some of us sleep on the concrete floor even when there's a quiet, warm sleeping room. Gotta admit, that's mostly the result of booze overdose. But seriously, meeting my favorite sceners is worth ten times 70 euros so I probably wouldn't complain even if there would be no free beer (okay, that's maybe the only reason to complain). So just bring a sleeping bag with yourself, you most likely won't die from two uncomfortable nights. |

Well, I never had any trouble with sleeping on the floor, but in case you are afraid of loosing the bed and that the floor might injure your body, bring a plastic beach mattress with you. It's compact and so damn cheap in discount Chinese shops, you could just trow it away after the party. |

whiners should simply pay twice the normal entrance fee. or something.

If there is to be any sleeping at a copy party, it should be done under your table. If you're not comfy with this, bring caffeine pills. |

pharmacy, hardware store...
also, I don't care about bed or sleeping on the floor. I prefer a bed, of course. but when that's not available I'll sleep on the floor ( like on BP and OXY ). seriously, after >24hrs of nonstop data you don't care about where you sleep anymore. and if you do you're a fucking nancy boy.

Sleeping on the floor works sometimes, other times it's a real pain (i.e. waking up every 20 minutes, having to shift position - an endless bore). An air mattress is a pretty nice solution. Oh, and ear plugs, preferably a soft model unless you enjoy sore ear canals. |

Sleep? - The trick is to keep driking. Don't over do it, just slow drink, and drink yourself sober. Thats what I did during X96.
I was up all day, drinking Heineken (although it might have been different beer at X). Up all night drinking beer, although I did attempt to close my eye's, I failed. Then the next day it was Heineken for breakfast. After the compo's were over in the afternoon, we traveled by train to Rotterdam. Things became blurry then. Some proper food was obtained, then it was onto the next bar, and then a small bar was found that stayed open all night (they sold chips also). We were drinking until 6 in the morning (Nazz won a ton of cash from a fruitmachine that funded the drinking). Must have crashed out about 7 after breakfast. 48 hours non stop :D

I'm not worried about the beds. But I do find it important that there are enough chairs+tables in the party hall. As far as I am concerned, I guess there will max be around 50 persons more at x2008, than there was at x2006, so I think the partyhall is big enough for that.
A few things I also hope for are:
(1) No crap rapper during the JT performance! (that rapper bloke kinda ruined it last time)
(2)Effects of any kind should NOT be added to the c64 sound output, something went wrong with my tune at x2006, I remember. The SID is powerfull enough itself, nothing needs to be added to the output. :-)
I am really looking forward to X2008. See you there! |

Beds, chairs, tables, food, toilet paper, whatever. All those could run out and only the sissy ones will complain. But try leaving a bunch of oldschool nerds without beer just before the demo compo and a riot will start (happened at Function a week ago and believe me, we were not too happy about it).
Seriously, I'm not an alcoholic, but I'd really like to know if there would be enough beers till the end of party, as nothing could beat the feeling of having a lager in your hand while watching C64 demos on the big screen with your friends.
So just to be sure: probably not enough beds, but how about the beer? In the slightest case of doubt, I'll bring some of my own. |

Jailbird, so far nobody managed to drink all the beer
at any of the X parties held at the farm. (X-98, X00, X01, X04, X06)
So give it your best shot !

God....
There was no 'rapper' bloke, the guy was just cheering and mc'ing, playing the crowd so to say. I for one liked it as it added a party-like atmosphere to the performance. iirc, JT liked it too btw.
No offence but everyone has heard those tunes thousands of times before so if any added flavor is ruining it for you I think that's a very narrow minded un-partylike attitude. Or should we ask people not to cheer either so you can enjoy the SID sound in its purest form? ;)
Also I have to mention that NO effects were added to your SID. Actually I do remember you asking for more high-end because the sound system was a bit too basy as it was a true disco PA system. But claiming an effect was added and something went wrong with your tune is bull.
Anyway... your tune won the 1st place if i recall correctly so why the whining about the sound? Each sound system will sound different. Cope with it. One can only try to approach a desired sound but the characteristics of a speaker will always shine through.
I am bringing another brand of speakers this year btw so if you want your stuff to sound the way you want come to me and we'll do a proper 'SID' soundcheck. |

Hein

Jeff, no effects means you won't win this year. ;)
I think the soundsystem is always a bit troublesome at parties, compared to the pure and delicate configuration I have at home, ahem. Then again, each of us has a different taste, I myself don't like oompf beats that beat the crap out of the well crafted details.
Guess we just have to cope with it, make a boombastic tune and win for glory (and complain there are no chicks sucking the winner's dick backstage).

Just bring the same sound system that you had for X'04, IIRC that was very well balanced and had great sound. The speakers at X'06 were a lot worse compared to those indeed.

IIRC that was a set with 2 Bose 802MkII's with the controller... :) Very nice speakers IMO :) However, I think one of them is broken now. |

When I realized that there's a jury on X, I simply decided not to participate on the compos any more and that was it, the problem was solved from my point of view. The X2004 results were indeed a bit fishy, but you once you agreed to play with the (clear) rules, well, it's not too gentleman-like to complain afterward. Just my two cents. |

I don't know how you live and how you sleep, but I'm at the lucky position to have a nice bed at home and yes I'll come with my own car to the party. @The Git:
Well, it was meant more in a constructive way.
Something did go wrong at the beginning with my tune, which to me didn't sound like a playerbug. atleast it's nothing that I have been able to replicate. :-)
I still think the mc-ing was unnecessary, people were still enjoying the act. Afterall the X parties are the best c64 parties I have ever attended, so don't worry, I will still have a really good time there, I'm sure ;-)
I do imagine that it can be difficult to set up a perfect sound-system when sid tunes are played loud. So many different composers, styles, sid chips, etc.
Do slap my ass if you still think I am being a silly about this. The party itself, all in all is a winner. And another thing that most other parties don't happen to manage is to gather such a large amount of cool old+new c64 scene people.
Looking forward to it!
:-)
