The 1541U Corner
Hi,
I'm wanting to replace the default cart rom with The Final Rom 0.8
The Final Rom 0.8 has been renamed to the default cart and I have replaced the file in the update1 directory. Now I want to flash the 1541U with the new information.
Carefully following the instructions and also following Gideon's fix. My Batch4 1541U cannot be flashed.
Any suggestions? |

Fixed.
It wouldn't accept the 1.6+ firmware (by Frantic) for flashing, updated with 1.6 official and worked.
---snip---
Now that I have The Final Replay 0.8 as default rom, I want to use Codenet to connect to Warpcopy to transfer disks using the 1541U as a medium.
However, now that all is set and I've connected the ethernet cable from 1541U to my router, I get this response when pressing F6:
READY.
CODENET:
NO RR-NET FOUND.
Edit: found that using TAsm / Codenet PAL I ***can*** connect to telnet BBS, meaning the problem is with Warpcopy/IP config. Off to chat with Graham.

jazzcat: codenet doesnt work properly on the 1541u, if you load the warpcopy server from disk manually then warpcopy works fine though. |

Groepaz: Please elaborate a little on that. As far as I can remember, I have used warpcopy with 1541U firmware 1.6 without problems. I *may* remember wrong though. What exactly would be the difference when loading the warpcopy server from disk? ...and do you mean "load from disk" as in really load it from a 5.25" disk, or from a .d64 in the 1541U? |

Codenet works on 1541U.
For my setup I found the problem was my IP configuration. I have dynamic and not static IP.
When loading the TAsm/Codenet ROM PAL that's already in Firmware 1.6, I can connect to codenet fine and use warpcopy connected to 1541U without problems. I only have problems trying to get it to work with The Final Replay.
Because The Final Replay was designed around Static IP I found that TAsm/Codenet ROM was better for me as it supports DHCP.

codenet is more than beeing able to send the warpcopy server =)
frantic: check the 1541u forums, it is a known bug. something about i/o decoding not done right, which results in codenet either not working at all, or not beeing able to access all ram correctly. |

Groepaz: just out of interest, have you tried using it with SounDemon's TASM rom? |

Groepaz: Yes, I will check the 1541U forum. ....some day when I am EXTREMELY bored. That forum ain't really of the kind where you get so tempted to search for sensible information that you just can't resist. |

that doesnt change the fact though that it is THE place to get informed about 1541u matters :) |

Sure.... but no harm in mentioned 1541U stuff here...
Anyway, just successfully dumped 80 images using Warpcopy via 1541U... works like a charm.

no, but this whole thread is a bit pointless, as everything has already been answered over there. |

I doubt the forum has answers to every question, besides, I wasn't getting the answers quickly enough over there (as the forums are kinda slow) and this is where things are quicker.
Anyway, very interesting the 1541U has problems with Codenet on some levels yet not on others. Incidentally, Gideon is hoping to release 1.7 firmware upgrade in the next couple of weeks, it will include The Final Replay 0.8 ROM of which I sent him, maybe the upgrade will address some Batch4 concerns and possibly the Codenet issue. |

okay, finally I have looked into my 1541u O:-), but I have problems. I have tried 2 c64s, one of them seams to be faulty, AR cart screen doesnt comes up when turned on, instead I get the blue screen with only 30xxx bytes free, and when installing firmware or in disk select, setup mode the screen is garbled.
now with the other c64, and two c128dcrs the problem is the same: cant get EoD and Desert Dream running. EoD: getting stuck at the very 1st change disk screen. DD: getting stuck on the 'depack screen'. I have freezed it in and its stuck in a loop waiting for the drive to do smth. Some other stuff seems to be working tho. Chuck Rock iffl loader & ScenePlus 2nd issue (irq loader) worked fine.
what am I doing wrong?
edit: oh and all tried also all firmwares... |

I'd try the 1541-II rom, which seems to be the most compatible.
Then if changing disks doesnt work (it doesnt detect a new disk being entered), you can set the option for Remove SD = remove disk (or something), then at the disk-change screen you can pop out your SD-card, reinsert and then freeze and select the disk..
Everything works fine though with my 1.6.4 or the official 1.7 firmware. While you're at it, I'd put the appl.bin from Crest (from BluREU) on your card. |

Dont forget to connect iec-cable on 1541U ;) Also its necessary to disable build in #9 drive for accessing sd-card directly, it messes most of the loaders if its enabled. |

It doesn't. Talk to Clarence who did a HW-patch for that. |

Sorry to push this "old" thread again...but I need a little tip:
I have always a reset-buttom in my user-port. If I press this one when I have the Ultimate-II in use, I will always get on the normal C=64-start-screen. No cartridge-screen (as I selected on the U2), no menue from the U2. The cartridge-screen only comes, when I restart my C=64.
(if I use the Chamaelon-64 it works - a press on the reset-buttom in the user-port and the Cham64-start-menue will appear).
Any idea why this does not work with the U2..??
Thanxx,
Mike |
