any proportional routine can handle the same mode. you just prepare your character set and length table with fixed size, that's it.

The intro has a part with 100(or so) column mode :)

Loader is shit. Each part can be loaded seperately 8-D

64'er-magazine had "ready-to-use" 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-pixel fixed width font routines in one of their issues. Must have been late 80's IIRC.

Where exactly in that demo is a 100 column mode? I failed to find anything. There's a hires lower border scroller somewhere in the middle of the demo, but that's only about 1/3 of the screen wide.

Actually, You'll find it 2 places. One (as mentioned) is in the intro below the raster splitts. The second is in the plotter/sprite part. Oh yeah, to avoid any confusion, it's the sideborder (3x5) pixel scroller :)

to be totally fair it's 96 columns. Then again I did say there about^^

Edit: Try this one for variable font width :) It's based on times newroman size 12. I have no idea how many columns it is but still it shows the general idea^^

Unreleased Demos

load the "crapateria" part.

I didn't want to nail you down on the 100 exactly. It's just that from your description I expected something completely different, like a text screen with a lot of char rows. :-)

No worrie man :)

Anyways what I figgure is this:

Badline = every 8 line right?

Charset = 5 pix max

You can easilly open the sideborder (don't enven have to open the badlines) to make a text-page like you are referring to. think about it, 96 x 25 8-D

Just stuff some sprites n the sides and you good to go with R-Time to spare

edit: If you want you could even get rid of the badlines and put out the chars avary 6 pixels, giving you: 200/6=33 horizontal lines of text aswell... (96x33) Stuff a sprite-logo in the upper border and jerk yourself off for beeing 133t and for listening to TWW! Would probably be a pain in the ass to read though^^

If it's faster than a human can read, it should be fine. :-) But yeah, I'd love to see this in action!

Maniac Mansion Mercury Easyflash version blabla uses a full screen proportional font as well (no siderborders)...
I consider the display reasonable fast but not #1 in that aspect.
