Big Prizes at Primary Star 2004
Hi All,
I want to ask you all something.
I am willing to donate a big prize for the demo compo.
Say like a SX64/c64GS/SFX module with full size keyboard,
or something else like 50 euro, doesn't really matter.
What i want to know is, will these prizes bring more and better quality productions!! Because if i contribute one of these there must be at least 3 to 5 good demos!
Maybe also for the other compo's, don't know yet.
So give me your reactions to this question.
So will people go active again?

Or save it for floppy'05, personally I think primary star gets inbetween two pretty large happenings.. LCP and Assembly. So the scene gets torn between these three parties, not really a good standingpoint. |

but primary star is a party in holland... and for every scener. not just only to mention those lazy old elite bastards from the antique x-party ;-) |

getting good contributions is tricky, floppy offers
wicked prizes but i think its more about certain
groups showing up to battle eachother. and we happen
to be in a good phase when several people have the
motivation and possibility to spend the needed time on making
demos |

i dont think primary star needs "better" prices. infact, i loved the prices last time. better have (a lot) of that kinda stuff that helps people to keep their c64 gear alive instead of a few "valuable" (as in money) things. pricing doesnt influence the amount and quality of releases at all IMHO - and it really shouldnt either. sceners with balls will release no matter what the prices are. |

It's not about prizes, it's about the competition. When there are no other good demos, there is no use in releasing your own product either. |

I don't fully agree.
If that'd be the case there wouldn't have been many opportunities the past few years.
It's true though that the prizes don't matter nor stimulate these days. However, we at the X-party organisation still think it's nice to give away something, even money (if there are any leftovers that is:). |

exactly the reason of our 4 year delay ;) just kidding.
How about a lapdance from the stripper for all the winners @ X-2004? That would get some old farts coding!

as hollowman said, the .se scene have been quite productive last year and as seen on this years floppy, now parties like lcp and floppy have gotten some attention from outside aswell, so evidently more ppl want to fight for fame and glory. |

You're hiring a stripper for X 2004? I really hope that was just a bad joke. |

Well, there were strippers on the old Silicon parties, so it's like a scene tradition ;Z |

Personally I feel that it's the competition itself that gives the motivation. Nobody does c64 demos for money and prizes. There are more lucrative hobbies. But, still.. it's a nice gesture, and I'm sure it'd be appreciated by the winner. But don't count on the amount of good compo entries increasing because of it.
I just hope other countries will experience what is happening in Sweden right now. Fairlight, Booze Design, Triad and of course WD are as productive as ever, and I'm sure we motivate each other. Sure enough to name our demo Motivation. ;) |

If they are really going to have a stripper at X I think I'll spend my money on going to a good party instead, like LCP 2004, or Floppy 2005. |

Do you guys know some other ways to motivate the scene?
I'll do my best already, visiting all parties i can go.
Doing my best at painting as much as possible, and getting motivation. Blackdroid's piccy from the floppy has this motivation. It will be hard to beat anywhere.
Multicolor rules!
Come on guys, lets put our shoulders underneed and show what you've got. Espacially the old dutch ones.
See at breakpoint.

I think the biggest hurdle for primary star is the date, atleast to get attention from scandinavia, with LCP and Assembly getting most of the spotlight. Dutch sceners needs a kick in the arse I suppose ;)
Breakpoint is another matter, see you all there, WD will represent :) |

hehe, I've actually watched the beginning of that movie, and it rocks! At least in a cult-b-movie kinda way. The acting is really kindergarten, and the directing a woked zombie could do just as good.
That movie is planned to be shown at the WD Expo 2004, which gives a hint on how much we appreciate that prize.
A big thanks to the responsible Floppy organizer. ;) |

to jump the bandwagon, strippers at demoparties suck. i remember ms2k, when radwar hired pia to do her 20 minutes show on stage. i wonder if less people would have bought radwar-tickets if she didn't agree to sell them after she did the chicken dance on stage?
(fyi, i don't want to put down radwar, but that was just plain tacky =)
i take the sarcasm and nothing like that will happen at the x, but if cba would be up for a special on his own .. well. nobody would want to stop him i guess. :) |

about the date, its pretty fixed.
Because in august i have first choice and the place isn't rented. And second people have holiday's then, so the can travel a little further/longer than normal.

Hi exile,
nice prices are good, but as already said, it will not help you that much.
I fear, you have to be patient, and organize good Parties, you will see that year after year, there will be more and better competitors.
Have Fun,

A stripper at X , I doubt it , that was more a
SILICON thing !.....
X is more about drinking, talking with your old DATA buddies and such. , much better then seeing a bitch showing her tits.

I couldn't agree more with this.
Us, 30+ sceners, finally have an excuse to act as boys and forget about our daily struggle.
I also got my things together after a year of lawyers and judges (not even close to a dark one ;-).
Yeah, a stripper would be welcome.

Well, I remember Niels' bachelor party on a
boat in Amsterdam. There had to be some drinking
game with 'missions' ;) The last one was to run
naked around the boat in the tourist part of
our nation's capital. It was viewed by several
tourists and a drunken Niels put up a nice show..
hehe ;)
*HAAKS*
And I take it X is not seen as an antique party,
at least one dutch group will kick ass this year!
HCL for DATA-president.. I'd like to some swedish

If you look closely you can read I refer to CBA's post.
Furthermore, I self-censored the word with a * to decrease the impact.

I've got no problem with you speaking up, but don't be so quick to attack a whole group just because you see a few of them use a certain language. I don't like those words either, but I also I don't like being accused of having no respect for women. So yes, when that happens, I get pissed off.

The humourous talk about "complaining females" and "fuck mermaid demo" was of course CBA's fault as well. |

I did not blame CBA, I was just referring.
About the 'complaining females' issue, I rest my case.
And that's also the reason why a 'fuck mermaid' demo never will be made.
