New home for old disks.

Due to some reorganisation of space in my house I am looking for a new home for 29 boxes of 5 1/4 disks of which about 85% is working the last time I checked them.
The price is none negotiable (free, zero, nought, nothing) but also so is the fact that you have to come and pick them up at my house and haul them down two flights of stairs yourself.
PM me or contact me, more or less, direct at: a.vandeurzen@gmail.com.

If those guys did not/do not contact you:
The Transfer Team
they are the ones!
AFAIR some of them live in NL or at least as close as Belgium/Lux

Just a suggestion, and I wouldn't suggest it unless I've done it ;)

You can always invite some friends over and have a disk war ;)

It really is great fun flinging floppies at people.

The 1 time I've done this was over 20 years ago, and I remember it like it was a few years ago, haha. Still, it was great fun...

You should try it ;)

Phantom: How amusing that may sound there are a few things against it. a: I like to keep both my eyes, b: by the time we are through the 3000+ disks it'll be 2016 and I could have taken them with me to x-2016. I'd like to clear the space this year.
TheRyk: I was actually hoping for one of them to contact me...

Acidchild: I already talked to Mace about it some time ago but so many boxes is too much for him to store, either.
Where about in Germany do you live? If it is not too near Poland :) maybe I can arrange something.

Eh... Your address is one 'your' page and it is near Poland. I understand that you are not that mobile so there isn't any chance of meeting half-way?

AOD: no sorry. hopefully cavey can help out. what about putting all disks into a parcel (maybe even 2) without the boxes itself? you should be able to fit 2400 disks in 2 big parcels. then you could send them over to germany. postage could be shared.

Unfortunately I don't have the space for 29 boxes of diskettes either :(

In how many moving boxes can you fit them? I might have space for two of those gamma/praxis/karwei moving boxes. But that's about the max I can accommodate at the moment.

It's about 3500 of 'em so posting is not really an option. That'll cost about 100 euros (3 boxes)
I think I'll just ask someone to keep me company and drive them up there. Maybe even this week.

AoD: Great that you are making so much effort to preserve those disks. Drop me a PM if you need anything hardware-wise - would like to reward you somehow, just because I am crazy about conservation as well. Would invite you on a couple of beers at X16, but unfortunately (not! :) it is for free already. :-) Well, I could volunteer to fetch it for you from the desk. :)

Tell us something about the disks and boxes. Are the boxes with c64-scene stickers ? If not then it is only the disks that are interesting. Are the disks won on auctions or what is the origin of them ?

Several people may help getting the disks to X16. I hope some of our special forces in Holland aka. Mace, Bordeaux, Exile, Cavey can help to get and store the disks until X16.

Let's get the dutch army here and tell us how the disks can be kept until preservation.

About a fifth has been through the conservation process already (on X-2010) and I have sorted through them all (I do have my own hardware to make images) and will keep what is interesting to me. It's just that I need the space in my house.
I had planned to hand over most of them on X-2012 and -14 but somehow the communication went awry and everybody panicked when they saw the used stack they had to take back.
If it is ok with Acidchild I'll bring them over to his house. :)

there could be a chance i might be bringing the derby ram collection to x16 as well if i can get the transport sorted out.

as far as i remember the derby ram collection is going to my old mate from germany if he's attending

What a happy ending :)

Good that we have European Union, wonder what custom officers would have thought, hehehe: "What? Ancient Disks? Where's the dope?"

You can ask Acidchild.
He has indeed had that problem a few times...
