Cool, Interesting or Funny Stories... Got any????
Ok folks... Im sure you've been around a few good years now (seeing that this is a c64 database and most of us im sure r old ;) ) so if u have any computer related stories that u think might be interesting, strange or funny go ahead and share them with us.... Im sure i have a few kicking about in my head, but the 1 i rememebered today was about c64 music.... Ok here in belfast there was a software company called 'Choice software' a small company, but believe it or not, they did nearly all the ocean conversions on the spectrum, amstard and they also did stuff on the atari st and amiga... example - (amstard 'rambo') (spectrum 'new zealand story, platoon') (Amiga 'New zealand story') etc etc... So anyway my mate dave had just started working for Choice software which was about 5 miles from were we both lived and his first project was the c64 version of 'New zealand story' but as dave was new to the gaming/programming scene and the game was an important title for ocean he was taken off it and it was handed back to oceans inhouse team. So anyway i was invited down a few times to meet the team and to see wot goes on in the software house, but this 1 time i brought down a demo i had done, scrolling text, sprites moving about, but loads of music, but the demo was nothing special (thats the normal for me ;) ) by pressing different keys on the keyboard it played different tunes like commando, monty on the run etc, but colin gordan the head programmer and owner of the company ( he wrote new zealand story on the amiga) walked into daves room when my demo was running, he looked at the demo and listen as i skipped through some of the tunes... but while 'monty on the run' written by the famous Rob Hubbard was playing he said to me 'is that your demo, i guess u can program then' i replied 'yip i did it, i program a wee bit'... then he said 'i like your music and his company didnt have a musician and would i be interested as he liked wot he heard'... lol.... i think everyone alive and who has a c64 wished they wrote 'monty on the run main tune' anyway i replied 'no, i didnt compose any of the tunes, i just wrote the demo and ripped the music out of games and put them into my demo....' so just for a second, a split second, i was rob hubbard ( I WISH )... so thats 1 of my stories.... come on, whos next....

Ok this story takes place last year at the Back In Time event (Music Reunion).... and includes web links of me taking a photo of Gary Liddon of Zzapp64 while he takes a photo of me at the same time, for some reason he wanted to do that as he had never done that b4... Click this web link
http://homepage.mac.com/garyliddon/PhotoAlbum8.html
and go down to the 13th post and click on the link at that posting as this will take you to the photos Gary Liddon took, then go down to the 22nd photo in it and u can see Franksey, Dawsy (Genesis-Project) and myself.... ofcourse u cant see me right as im holding a camera up to take a photo of Gary :) So anyway on with the story (this is a cut down version, the full version can be found at the same web link as above and its 7 posts down from the top, not that theres much extra from this verson).... STORY>>> Ive been on the C64 scene for many many years and have always loved the sid music listening to it almost everyday when possible. So going to the show and meeting my idols was a dream come true at last..... 'MayheM' were you the guy i meant early on friday nite, I was the guy in the white shirt with my girlfriend (from belfast), I came down to your table and asked if you were going to the back in time show???. Anyway about 20 mins later Fred Gray and his Daughter came in to the bar and sat down beside me, I turned to my girl and said 'Shit, I think thats Fred Gray!'... So i got chatting to Fred and his daughter and hes so so nice, really down to earth and easy to talk to, i have him in loads of photos, then the next evening i was getting a photo taken of me and ben daglish and he asked if he could join in the photo with me and ben.. WOW! how cool was that! asking me if he could he join in the photo.... His daughter ALEX told me she was a bit freaked out that people knew her father. LOL! She was 6yrs old when her father was composing on the c64 and didnt know then and even now what he was doing LOL! .... As for Martin Galway - whos from Belfast just like me, is another great great guy, what a laugh we had with him.... Dawsy, Stevie and me talked to martin for well over an hour at the evening event and the story he told us about hearing 'Thing on a Spring' for the first time and the faces he pulled while explaining it had me in fits of laughter..... All in all the whole weekend as amazing for me, and all the bands played together so well..... So folks thats it 4 me again, i'll throw it open to yous now, u have bound to have something interesting to share....

I missed all the BIT's so far, but I'm going to BIT6 on September 11.
Well, my story...
I was at The Party 1995 in Fredericia, Denmark.
The first party since 1990 that I went to.
Many stories, but I just pick one out:
Next to me and my brother, there was an Amiga coder, and he was coding all day, he didn't eat, piss, or drink, he just coded. At least 18 hours, then he fell asleep and hit his head in the keyboard.
We could see that he had coded 40+ K of ASM.
Well, his head rested on the keyboard, and the end of his source (Promax/Kefrens, assembler) was just filling up with SPACE, SPACE, SPACE...... forever.
We laughed a lot about it!
Hours went by, and it just kept on going at his place, space space space.
We laughed our asses off. We even invited people to see him, like a freakshow! :-)
Then my brother said: "Shouldn't we save his source ?, maybe he would appreciate that!?"
I just said no, and so it was, we didn't do anything.
Well, he slept so long, that the memory got filled, and the poor A500 went into a GURU meditation.
We laughed even more.
Then he woke up, saw the screen, and started to cry.
He had not saved at all, and we had not helped him in his sleep to save it, and it was a middle-sized source, anyway, a lot!
Shit happends, but I feel bad we didn't help, but anyway
I laugh my ass off now and then about it anyway! :-)

If you have a funny story, you could enter it in the Scene World competition. Details are in issues 10 and 11, and the competition is open until 1st October 2004.
E-mail the editors (Nafcom or Merman) with your story, and the winner gets a unique piece of Scene World memorabilia.

Some more things came up, still more or less in bullets.
- That guy Unifier (Flash, Censor etc) that I liked pretty much back then totally freaked out these days. There's a scary story about him and King Fisher. I really wonder what happened to Unifier, drugs ?
- The skinheads in Censor Designs, Dr Cool destroying parties and stealing hardware.
- GNN of Dual Crew blowing stuff away with his bombs and fireworks
- Gurus Dream
- TRIAD internal meetings
- Verdun and me starting a group called Bananas or something.
- Chorus of TRIAD extremely drunk on a HZ party in Huddinge (well, I was pretty drunk too, lol). I think he left scene after that party. Too bad, I liked that guy, someone here have his contact info?
- Talking about drunk people. There was this Amiga coder (Slayer i think his handle was), that did the demo "Scoopex-Mental Hangover", he was so piss-drunk on all parties, but still ruled the compos. He told me he did the demos while drinking, somehow I dont believe him ;)
Thats some more of the memories, mainly from the Swedish part of the scene. Someone else that have something to share ?

It's not a trick, some coders really are piss drunk when they produce their best work. I did some great techno-crap tunes on PC while getting more and more intoxicated. It releases the dopamin to the brain, and all ideas are used, without reflection whether they are good or bad, just inspiration! Look at
http://nmioaon.dyndns.dk
isn't that one of many empty beers, while I code ? Will it make the game more fun ? yes!!

Concerning Ulf (Unifier): haven't heard from him in ages, really hope he's alright. He was a very cool guy, we were briefly in Marvel (c64) & Bonzai (pc) together.

Well, there are many stories to tell. I remember having fun at one Furulund party years ago. We wrote TILT on Dr Star/Byterapers forehead. He went totally mad.
Or when Strider put crap quality paper stickers on lamers screens. They could not get them off. Poor guys.
Or when Mr Sex/Byterapers asked Bacchus/Fairlight at Tribute 94 if: "Are you still the same, Bacchus?", while drinking some green slime from a half cut beer can. Oh, those guys from Finland. Always drunk.. still they win the competitions.

Hmmm.. I went to a party in 1989, and had deal with Mandy Girl, that we were probably gonna do a little kissin' etc. :-) We were very happy to see eachother, but then my friend Hagar showed up and started to bake her. After 5 mins. she was totally in love with him, and they spent the rest of the party holding hands. :-(
So much for 3 years of swapping and handwritten letters that got longer and longer, and even steamy in the end - all to no avail :-)
