Disk Covers –exhibition (Tampere, Finland)

Shortly: lately we (Duce & Electric) together with ZOOparty and The Finnish Museum of Games have been working on an exhibition on C-64 disk covers. The exhibition is soon to be realized and the dates of the show are 12.10.2018–6.1.2019. The location is in the space of The Finnish Museum of Games in Tampere, Finland.

We’ll be showing works from 80s until today with wide range of artists. Due this (and the fact that it’s been pretty difficult to reach most of the artists) we’re putting online this official invitation note that concerns all the people listed in the end of the message:

IF you do NOT allow us to present your cover in the exhibition, please send us an email in: tomustur@gmail.com

… silence is considered as 'yes, please show it!'. If you happen to know some of the people on the list personally, we'd appreciate your help - informing them about the exhibition is highly recommended. We've of course already contacted the people we could easily reach.

The exhibition space is relatively small but we will feature close to 100 pieces on the walls and 200–300 in folders that the audience can browse. In addition the exhibition will feature few originals so people can see how the covers are done. Besides those few original works all the pieces are shown in true scene-way: as photocopies. In all the wholesome is mostly based on our own collections.

We will photograph the exhibition and put a package online for the artists to see so you may also reply us and give a contact email. As the amount of works is HUGE (+300) we can’t photograph all of it of course. Most of the works are in the folders to be browsed.

What we’re trying to present is of course cool covers BUT as well the whole sub-culture of disk covers. So, we’re also including some weird covers, ‘funny’ teen covers, bad covers, original hand-drawn covers (like with pencil or such) and so on. This is all voluntary work and there is no money involved.

FYI: The Finnish Museum of Games started ’16 and besides its main focus on games collects and presents all kinds of digital art related to the subject. They’re interested in demoscene and have already exhibited scene’s pixel art. To read more: http://vapriikki.fi/en/pelimuseo/
