Why dont we have GEOS update for normal C64?
We have Wheels and some other new opsys for the SCPU-ed C64, but nothing new for the normal C64.
Some hard swapping with IDE64 is not enough for a good operating system.

Dear Viktor,
Wheels itself does NOT require a SuperCPU, only a REU. However, a SuperCPU is recommended. Wheels SC will be a special version of Wheels which is going to be optimized for SuperCPU and therefor won't work without one.

i also would be appreciate if there will be
a geos update for the stock c-64. i don't like the
s-cpu very much because with it the c-64 isn't what it
was once anymore. i also don't like the way to expand your c-64
with strange hardware extensions like the s-cpu and 90% of the users/sceners will not be able to run the software titles because it's incompatible to the stock machine. you also know this problem on the x86-platform :) (remember the times everyone had 4MB of Ram and most of the newer games needed 8MB to run?)
what do you ppl think about it? |

I never thought GEOS was very good in the first place. |

My opinion: The SCPU is surely nice for application use (internet, word processing etc.)
But for games/demos, I get a certain "so what"-feeling, because of high CPU power. Like an x86 or something. Ok, there's the SID & VIC, but when they're driven by such a monster, where's the unique feeling & challenge :)
An example: Big User has helped me by testing that MW4 engine runs problemfree on SCPU. It does the usual "almost whole screen" hardscroll, which takes something like 160 rasterlines. On SCPU, as I saw from his videocapture, it's rather like 20 lines :)
All respect to Metal Dust crew though :)

Hello.
First of all, the SuperCPU is a natural extension of the c64; After all, even Commodore Business Machines itself released a Z80 cartridge for the c64. :)
If you don't want it, then don't get it. However, the SuperCPU has been a blast and has breathed some life into my Commodore hobby. Well worth the expense.
Secondly, even if there is an update for 'regular' GEOS, it would still require RAM expansion. GEOS v2.0, as it is, is pretty much well packed, code-wise. To upgrade it would require a lot more code and this is where RAM expansion comes in.
Third, I'm looking forward to Wheels SC! This is GEOS on steroids, hopefully humming smoothly on my CMD setup. :)
Enjoy.

I don't see the point in update that lame GEOS crap.
It was never good and will never be. Even Vizawrite was better. The one person who wants that update should do it himself... Better code demos, tools or whatever but GEOS.
/me is proud to dislike GEOS more than a decade now |

It is one of the better productivity suites for C64. An Aussie C64 club still uses it for their monthly newsletter. When used with decent fonts+printer = respectable results. I see nothing wrong with people using it but I think Wheels only needs RAM expansion if you want updates. |

if id had a good printer i could have handed in my uni-papers using geos. thatd be nice.
but as ive never been fond of geos its not likely to happen.
my answeringmachine is playing sids tho :)
how many users are there of wheels and such programs? |
