Counting trainers
People who add cracks to CSDb or upload them anywhere else usually take the amount of trainers which is stated in the intro/filename. But sometimes the amount of + mentioned in the intro isn't what it is for real, speaking of double-cheating. That's why I suggest following:
1) if there is questions like Unlimited Lives or 255 Lives this should be counted as one trainer only, I guess everybody agrees there
2) Sometimes crackers count the Highscoresaver as +, also that's obvious nonsense
3) often Unlimited Players 1? and Unlimited Players 2? are counted as ++ trainers, should we take this as one only?
4) more difficult it's when it asks for Choose Startlevel and Levelskip. What looks as one cheat only at first sight is worth a discussion I think because
a) both cheats need a different code, meaning the cracker needs to investigate for both cheats seperately
b) both cheats are useful
what do you think about counting level trainer these as one or two cheat(s)?

Problem is noone ever agreed after 1987 about the trainers. They followed in it 1987 and some of 1988 and then people did their own standards. |

Personally I see every change to the original as one +.
We could debate over saving highscore, as this was almost always indicated as '+HI'. But this one only.
Saving anything else (which is pretty rare) should count as a + on its own.
So, 'choose level' and 'levelskip' both count as a + separately.
However, the cheats per player shouldn't be separated.
A game with 4 players of which some trainer can be chosen separately just counts as 1 +.
That said: unlimited lives and unlimited weapons count as +2.
This way of determining the amount of + is always possible, without debate. |

This is an atavic problem. But set as option 255 lives and infinite lives in the same crack is senseless, also an HS installing is not a "+". |

Atavic... had to look that one up :-)
But yeah, seems like it.
Simply put: it's a problem that existed at some point in time, disappeared, but occured again later.
In other words: we can solve it now, but ppl tend to forget or dispute the agreements later and we'll have to discuss this matter all over again.
But hey... isn't that what forums are for? :-) |

I doubt we'll find an agreement that suit fine for everybody, or it's impossible to force everybody to follow it. But hey, debate is always good :) |

i can only agree to what manson said. in the early days, crackers used a "+" for every single thing they changed or improved (regardles if it was a trainer, a bugfix, a hiscore saver or whatever).
i'd prefer the original release name kept, and the actual trainers flagged in the database somehow. (this could then even be used to generate "standard" releasenames on the fly). |

We should do like they do in the 'real' world.
As soon as ONE standard doesn't fit, just make several! |
