Bit off-topic, but need some help on this.
Sorry this is NOT a c64 related topic, but I really need a bit of help on this, especially from some hardware gurus. I don't really want to register at Lemon Amiga for this one and only question.
I recently bought an AmigaOS 3.1 chip and install disks along with a ROM switcher so that I can use both AmigaOS 3.1 and the original 1.3 OS that was in the machine (so I can still play some of the old amiga games). Here's a photo of the switcher along side the original 1.3 chip (sorry it's a bit blurry:)
the original 1.3 chip BTW, is version 315093-02.
Here's a photo of my A500 motherboard where the original ROM chip is taken out.
The motherboard is revision 5.
I'm not too sure how to fit these two chips together as the switcher is nothing compared to this one (which I don't have):
I keep thinking that I just simply fit the switcher on top of the original 1.3 chip and fit the whole lot onto the motherboard. Is this correct, or do I need to do some soldering ? Better to be safe than sorry before I attempt to do any burning. |

Is this of any help?

Joe: That would help if I actually had that piece of hardware on me, but unfortunately I don't.
I'm definitely certain that blue switch is used to switch between two chips stacked on each other. ?! |

I wonder why any game would need this or that ROM. also I had utilities for my 1200 called like 'degrader' and stuff which helped to change the HW workings for older games. |

I wouldn't imagine you'd need to do any soldering , since the original thing is not either?
the switch is just changing what chipset being using on the cradle.

You can 'softkick' a 1.2 ROM and run games that require it. |

That will probably be the best alternative, since after all I am planning to work with the 3.1 ROM.
Oh yeah, also... on the instruction manual that came with the 3.1 ROM, it says:
"For revisions 3 and 5 must be connected at the base the pins 1 and 31. At the ROM you bend to pin 31 high and connect it with pin 21."
That sentance does sound a little bit weak - don't know who wrote it. Does it basically mean I need to bypass pin 21 by solerding pin 31 to it for the rom to work with my revision 5 motherboard ? |

That really sounds like a crappy switcher..
Why oh why would anyone EVER want to stick a 3.1 ROM in an A500!?? If you don't have extra RAM and preferably an accellerator board or some shit, I don't see the point. If you have either of those, I still don't see the point as you are likely to softkick/patch your 3.1 ROM anyway!?
Teh bestest solution IMHO, is simply keep your old 1.3 ROM and then softkick your patched/modded 3.1 kickstart file.
As for the switcher, could you please post a picture of the bottom of that switcher or draw up some schematic so we can see what it actually DOES?! That might help a bit in deciphering it's usage.
