x1541 cables

hello,

where can i buy the x1541 cables nowadays. I tried to build one myself, but with no luck. I keep getting a "EPP/ECP error message". I think my home made cable only supports SPP. Maybe someone got an extra cable and for a fair price :P

Or are there other/better options to transfer data between your c64 and pc??

A standard x1541 cable has always worked fine for me. surprisingly easy to make :)

If have a free ISA slot, you can get yourself an IO-card with SPP parallel port quite cheap. Of course, also double-check the wiring of the cable :)

As for other possibilities: If you are willing to spend a little more money, I recommend the IDE64 + DUART(PCLink) solution. I am using it and I think it's the most comfortable and versatile way to transfer data between PC and c64.
By the way, I have an XE1541 cable to spare, because I don't need it any more (contact me if you want it...)

for the new mainboards you better use the so called xe1541 cable which is very similar to x1541 but with a bunch of more diodes between lpt connector pins. the schematics should be out there somewhere.

good luck

Yep in the X1541 shop. They're totally reliable + the prices are low. I bought my XM1541 from there and it works fine.

As far as i could understand on the text in the shop, the XM1541 cable, is better than XE1541 (something with working under linux aswell or something - don't ask me what makes linux not like the others)
