C65 dev
Is there enough tech info available to permit some C-65 development? Any interest in it? Would like to see what this machine is able to do (M.E.S.S. emulates the C65.) |

writing (serious) code for the c65 is kinda pointless, because every c65 is different. what runs on one might not run on the other. (and forget the emulation in mess, now. its worse than a c64 emu from 1995) |

I had a C65 once (sold it 5-10 years ago) and as far as I can remember I only got one of the various demo programs floating around working on that machine. That very much confirms what Groepaz says... It doesn't really make sense to say "what a real c65 is like", since they differ.. yep.. |

I also had a C65 (and coded a demo for it), i had not only the computer, but also a full fledged technical documentation.
That documentation is in the internets too, iirc.
And the differences are not _that_ big, if you dont do a basic-demo :-P

I did some minor research on C65 coding, but as far as I could understand MESS didn't emulate the new VIC3-features, which made the whole thing pointless.
Getting an actual C-65 is out of the question for anyone but multi-millionaires nowadays, considering that the last time I saw one change owners on eBay it went for $5000! |

Then again, what's the point of coding for a C65 if we have DTV?
Better use your energy for something that others can enjoy. |

People are talking about the C=65. Wow! I am intrigued by this awesome machine. It has a built in 1581! It is a hYbrid of a Commodore 64 and an Amiga. There is so much that you can do with a Commodore 65... |

Well, if I was going to spend $5000 on what in essence would amount to an expensive collectible/toy, I would have to be a millionaire. However, others may have different priorities... ;)
But I agree on the DTV, and it actually has some similarities with a C65 (ie. a 'super C64' with blitter and 256-color graphic modes).
Also it is a bit cheaper to get. :)

I agree that it would be fun to see more C64DTV dev. Look at Boulder Dash enhanced to use 256 colors! |

..and the Vice2.1 has a good emulator for the DTV.
The Emulation is very accurate now and helps a lot !
And of course, I want to see more on the DTV, too :->

While DTV is important part of keeping c64 spirit alive there is something magical regarding C65 - probably because there are so few of them. I think that only one such late and similar development actually released to the market for a... second was Sam Coupe. Anyway if there is a technical documentation floating around we could try to clone the machine with help of FPGAs ;) |
