Demo Collector Crew

Anyone interested in starting a Crew that collects demos ?
I know some individuals with a good demo collection (Zyron, Jack Alien, Acidchild, Graham, Iopop, me, ...)
It's impossible for me (and for all other demo-collecting-individuals) to do it all by ourselfs.
I suggest that we use CSDB the centralise all info (releases, dates, additional info,...) and upload the stuff so that everyone can take benefit from it.
We can make a mailinglist to discuss the releases and the info we found before it is uploaded to CSDB.
If you are (seriously!) interested and/or have suggestions then mail me. If there's not enough interest I will ofcourse go on by myself for myself :/

d64 should be the standard as it is the easiest thing for all to handle.

I always hate getting files in other shitty formats e.g. t64 as you always have to convert them into something "useful".

Adding stuff to csdb is a good idea, I am collecting demos, too and I already put some stuff in here too. So put my name down if it come to some kind of collector crew :-D

Yup, T64 is pretty pointless these days. On the other hand I see it's a waste of space to put single files on a D64. In cases like these I would go for plain PRG.

also worth thinking is the point of putting smaller demos/intros/pictures/runnable musics and such to one (or several if need be) .d64(s) so there wouldn't be so much wasted space on one diskside.. especially if one is thinking of transferring them back to real media and use on a real machine..

I'm echoing here the same point steppe mentioned earlier, but when using prg's, you lose the original filename.. and possibly some great dir-graphics which might have been on the original spread version.. or some notefiles and such..

hmh.. i'm rambling again.. hopefully even someone made head or tail from this mess of letters..

Storing things as .prg should not be allowed at all. Don't think you can find any bigger historical rape than that..

When it comes to c/g in the dirs I usually save them if they are relevant for the release.

I also proclaim the use of 1 d64 / demo. You get easier visability over what you have and can faster find the correct demo via a normal file browser.

If you want to save space by having many demos(releases) on the same d64 you could aswell save the transfered disk and relate the release to that specific disk via some database.

For me the most important thing is the release not what kind of warez that got spread during the same time. Though, that is also interesting but from another angle...

Compressed as.ZIP there's not much difference between a single file demo on .D64 or .T64.... If people want it to be stored on .D64 files then thats no problem for me, it's just an agreement we have to make...
...
I'm also in favour of putting only 1 release on a disk for better overviyw like Iopop already mentioned
...
Now, I got an offer for hosting a mailinglist from Anonym/Padua so all those who are interested send me a mail. If 5 or more people are (again: seriously) interested in 'joining' then I'll ask Anonym to set up the list and add the email addys and we'll get to work.

Has nobody looked at this site? http://www.tosec.org
They have 'developed' a universal standard for naming demos. Maybe interresting? As for me, i put all of my collection online at http://c64.ch and when i sort the demos i try to add as much info to csdb from what i get out of the demos, etc. But as for the type of files, i also prefer .d64 files. Easier handling.

Well, sounds interesting. Maybe I'll get my collection in that way bigger and more complete. Count me in!

Have only over 300mb Demos sorted until now and it's still in work, ALL demos are in .D64 images (I hate prg, t64 images). I check every unsorted demo if there's something like an official spread-note or something else. If so, I add this file to my collected demo. In that way I get the demo COMPLETE. ;-)

I'll ask Anonym to set up the mailinglist and post a msg here and at C64.sk for people to sign in.

Some rules should be discussed before we start, i thought of these so far:

- subject of the mail = groupname

- body of the mail is a list of releases with additional info (releasedate, type, party,...)
ex.:
triad, manhood 7, demo, floppy 2008, #2 demo, 23-09-2008
triad, naaaame, demo, flippo 2004, #1 demo, 14-05-2004
etc...

- if you have more releases of the group we're working on, add them to the same mail and resend. AVOID rubbish text in mails (if you use IE, you know what I mean ;))

- if no more indo is found the stuff will be uploaded to CSDB.

- NO binaries on the mailinglist, send to private accounts if you want to swap

- I'm not interested in who did the code, gfx, msx,... but its ofcourse no problem if you want to add it in CSDB yourself... let me know what you think

All other suggestions should be discussed before we use the malinglist. send to my account or discuss here.

thanx for the interest so far !
