depends on what you want to do with it :)
there are ofcourse some disadvantages :
- no user interface
- it's not compatible with all loaders (i think)...
So if it fits your purpose.. |

In addition to what WVL wrote, some differences would be:
uIEC is significantly less expensive
uIEC does not have REU or cartridge functionality
uIEC is less compatible
I bought a uIEC because I don't need/want all the features of the 1541 Ultimate, especially not at its price. I have JiffyDOS, which works great to speed load times with uIEC. It works fine with all the apps/games/demos I run.
Also, if you don't need all the features provided by 1541U, you might look into SD2IEC or MMC2IEC since both of those are primarily Euro products and are similar to the uIEC in cost and functionality. |

SD2IEC is actually pretty much exactly the same as uIEC (the devices even share the same firmware) |
