1541-2 issue

hi i wonder if anyone out there can help...

i seem to have a problem with my 1541-2 drive....this doesnt happen all the time but it is getting more frequent and becoming a problem...

when i 1st switch my c64 on and then my floppy drive the drive light comes on and the head starts spinning and both keep going and going and going....eventually after alot of powering off and on the drive starts as it should do...

does anyone know why this drive might be doing this and how to fix this issue

thanks

now this is getting interesting...

impetigo did you just solder the wires from the 1541-2 cable directly to the pins of the switching cable??

Actually I bought a female connector to connect the power supply. I soldered this (female) connector to the 1541 cable. Then I simply connect them together.

But if you want you can cut the connector of the power supply and solder your 1541 cable to the power supply cable. Cos' soldering to the pins of the connector is gonna be really difficult.

Also, don't forget to double (maybe triple) check your work. You wouldn't want to mix 5V, 12V and GND lines.

Good luck.

Hello all,

yesterday a friend of mine sent me a video. C64 + AR + 1541.

This is an old 1541 that works for a while, and then it makes the same error. He said after idle it works fine, but than again it fails again.
He tried to cool down the drive, but no luck.

Thanks for any ideas.

The "73,CBM DOS" indicates that the drive resetted while reading out the directory. I cannot tell if the reset is a HW reset, or if it is just a SW issue.

Additionally, the symbols that look similar to pipes ("|") are the normal behaviour you get from the C64 when you keep reading past the EOF.

Can you measure if the drive actually resets when this happens? Can you measure the voltages and look if they are considerably lower than 5V and 12V when this problem happens?

Measured, they are above 5,1V and above 12,3V.

It seems that drive motor stops after reset when it is standalone, but keeps spinning connected to a 64.
