I use MAMEWah on my cab. I can't remember what C64 emu I have on it because I never use it. |

Build Your Own Arcade Controls would probably be better for MAME cab front end advice.

I built my cabinet back in 2001, and aside from updating the ROM files every two years or so I haven't touched it much since. I remember that MAMEWah was great for launching the emulators, but not all emulators were cabinet friendly. I either used VICE or Frodo, and I think I had to find a modded version in order for the application to quit when ESC is hit.
I got it to work, but I didn't do much with it. All of the good arcade games for the Commodore 64 had... well, a superior arcade counterparts that are also available on my cabinet. I played around with Nemesis the Warlock and Usagi Yojimbo for a bit, but my favorite 64 games are strat and RPGs so I didn't really care if I got it working or not.
The only two emulators that got used were MAME and the Playstation emu. Everything else was a waste of space as none of my houseguests cared much beyond Donkey Kong or maybe an occasional 3d fighter.
TL;DR- Go to BYOAC for one of the most enthusiastically helpful forum communities on the Intarwebz.

Mactron built a full size cabinet based on a DTV with games.
He also made a mini arcade like 30x20x20 cm for his son with a small screen :) also here, a DTV.

I have a C64 Arcade Machine. It is built from a SX-64. I picked up a arcade cabinet for $45 USD off of e-bay. It has a uIEC and a MMC-Replay with a RR-Net card. After seeing, SkydivinGirl's MAME machine, though I was a little disappointed that I did not go in that direction. But at least mine uses a lot of a Commodore 64's real hardware. I plan to re-paint it this summer and clean up a lot of the dents, etc... and put the side art I had made. BTW, they have already built Mame Machines you can buy and they build them to what you want them to be. If I had it to do over, I would of went for one of them since my wood working skills are not up to par for what is needed.
