What makes a "good" game for you?

What makes a "good" game for you?
Funky Graphics?
Catchy gameplay?
Great atmosphere?
Something else...

I used to play Pirates! for years because I liked the gameplay and the atmosphere. The graphics were nothing special and it was coded in Basic (partly).

too subjective ...

the answer for me is GRYPHON :)

I like h-scroll, supported by good gfx

but it happens that you can spend hours with a game with crap gfx and poor music

I think the main thing is how you control it (joy or keys), I've played (just few minutes) to thousands of c-64 games.
Just few catched my attention more than usually a demo or an intro did.

from the beginning I've played to hunchback, bc quest for tyres, zaxxon and I consider this games not so exciting or well done!

At least when bored I jumped into the code and trained to go forward ...

I suppose a nice intro pic, with a lovely tune during play, supported by good gfx helps a lot for the endurance of the game ...

to close I played so many times to crap crazy comets to enjoy sir Hubbard music!

Gameplay. Even atmosphere is icing on the cake really, if every other factor is ramped up to eleven and it plays like crap, it's a crap game.

In order of importance:

- Interesting gameplay & good controls
- Lack of serious (gamekilling) bugs
- Graphics/sound presentation & atmosphere
- Internally consistent world / mythos

Something has draw you back for more! Usually the feeling of "I'm sure I can do a bit better than that" or "HECK, my drunk friend just outdid me" keeps one busy. A clever points system and a rewarding learning curve are good things in my opinion.
