Colour Paper Magazine .... Just Wondering

Would anyone out there be interested in help to produce a full colour c64 related magazine? and how much would you be prepared to pay for such a magazine?

I'm just curious to see if it could be done and how much it could be done for. I'm guessing the cost would be dependent on how many issue's were printed / sold.

I'd give up to €20 including shipping.

my advice would be not to go the print route. ink costs are prohibitively high in the mag/newspaper industry these days.

if you want to do a mag, do it like you would for print then publish to a PDF document instead.

that way you can skip all the nasty expensive bits like production costs and print schedules, while still having it look like a magazine.

you can even publish pdf/flash documents from InDesign as standard that let you "page turn" a multiple page pdf doc just like a mag.

I think however that your biggest headache will be finding editorial and articles with any regularity that folks want to read. There are only so many interviews with past sceners and "celebs" you can get away with :)

I second STE.

Problem nowadays is of course that any news you're going to publish will already be old to everyone as they've been spread among the net way before. The net explodes of commie retro information.

There's a German magazine called Retro (http://www.retromagazine.eu/) covering all the old systems, they are trying hard, but sales are AFAIK not that high. You might wanna order an issue.. it's very nice to look at, with full coloured print on thick paper Everything in German thou. (and no, I'm not affiliated to these guys ;)

Doing a printed C64 only magazine is a risk I won't recommend, it will be a financial failure, for sure.

There is also:
http://lotek64.com/main/mainframe.php
(german, retro, not just c64, nicely made, available in print and as pdf for free)

And there is:
http://www.return-magazin.de/
(german, printed, c64 focussed but covering other 8bits and beyond, high quality print)

plus:
http://www.retrogamer.net/
(british :) CPC/Speccy lovers but lots of c64 and other stuff as well)

This is just counting the true print mags.
There are several PDFs out there.

There is also Commodore Free - http://www.commodorefree.com

Last but not least, there are still some nice diskmags coming out, such as Vandalism News, Attitude and Scene World.
Maybe team up with any of these?
