PC to 1541
[...is there a lead to conect 1541 to PC via USB 2.0]
------------------------------------------------------------
hiho,
For years i made do with an Amiga 1200 soup`ed up to 40MHz complete with 8.Gig HD - it was good for surfing the net and porting d64 images over to 1541 (among other things).
About 8 months ago i thought it was about time to ditch the Amiga and pick up a PC as i figuard PC`s were up to a standard i would be happy with (with out feeling to need to upgrade and upgrade somemore in years to come). So i picked up a Sony Vaio, Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz. It`s got USB 2.0 ports. Dose there exist a lead to conect USB 2.0 to 1541 disk drive? /WEC :)

I have w2k, but I have a seperate partition with the DOS from Win98.
Btw, the cables are also available from Protovision, see http://www.protovision-online.de/catalog |

Quote: Try starting up your system in dos mode.
I've got a dedicated pc for xferring my stuff, but I would prefer it to just work from windows .. alas, it ain't so.
I was booting the notebook with a win98 start-disk, then running the transfer-prg. Should have the same effect (as Im running windows 2000), but it doesn't... |

I know starcommander works in win9x and it should work on winNT/2000/XP too. ("force async transfer" and use the tweak package SC_WINNT.ZIP)
Since my computer is to slow for XP i've only tried it on 9x, but in the docs he says it works. Which programs are you using? |

Radar, ever tried playing around in the BIOS? Try to alter the parallel port mode to ECP or ECP+EPP.
And just starting up the Star Commander won't make it work right from the beginning. I reckon you configured it before by pressing Strg+F9? PM me if you need assistance, I'd be surprised if SC wouldn't work on your PC. |

It hangs? Like in "stops reacting to keypresses"?
Have you enabled "Autodetect Port Mode" in the Settings? Try disabling it and see if that makes any difference. |

Did you also select async transfer and use the tweak package? (again: i wouldn't know since i've got win98, but it says in the doc that you have to do this if you use NT/2000/XP) |

He said he uses a Win98 bootdisk, so that's not necessary. Leaving that setting on Auto is the preferred way.
Oh, on another thought, are you using SC 0.82 or the latest 0.83 beta? |

After I had enough of trying to get transferring to work on xp and wanted to stop messing around with DOS disks. I created an extra DOS partition, then installed FREEDOS and put star commander on it.I simply just move the files I want to tranfer to a folder on that partition wich(duh!)can be accessed from with in XP :) or linux :) Now i just boot via LILO´s boot menu directly to DOS if i want to.
Although I think there is a great need for a new generation of transfer methods/software with normal GUI (would probably look like a FTP client GUI star commander mix) ,in linux and windows. This works fine for now :)
