HVSC in CSDb

There have been requests from time to time about the possibility to add information about which SIDs are used in releases, based on HVSC.
This feature have now been added! :)

For now the feature is very simple, but it is made in such a way that there is room for many improvements. Here is a list of a some ideas I've though about:

- Possibility to attach sceners to the SIDs, which would be the composers of course. :) (I'll try to automatically attach as many as possible with a script first, from the info in the SID-headers)
- Some way to search for SIDs
- Possibillity to upload new SIDs.
- Perhaps make it possible to comment, discuss and vote for SIDs?
- .. and the ones I thought about but can't remember right now. :)

For now I got information about the 33'000 SIDs in the latests release of HVSC in the CSDb database, and from the edit-page of any release, you will now find a little place where you can add SIDs to the release, based on it's HVSC path.
For now there are only very few of these connections made, but I hope all of you will add a few from time to time. :)

There is also a little SID-info-page for all the SIDs with most of the info found in the SID-headers. The only way to get to this page for now, is to follow the link from the release-page which uses this SID (if someone have attached the SID to the release.)
.... or by going to http://noname.c64.org/csdb/sid/?id=<somenumber> ;)

Enjoy. :)

And as always, comments are welcome.

Thanks to the HVSC-crew! :)

Wow, a dream comes true! I wish that would have happened years ago, but probably the time wasn't ripe back then, or to put it the other way around: HVSC has now (hopefully) reached a level of consolidation where we don't have to move around half of the tunes every update anymore.
Well, thumbs up, Perff, let's hope adding HVSC paths will become just as normal as making a proper screenshot.
I'm especially interested in seeing the usage of crack intro tunes, after people added the tunes for a reasonably high amount of productions. :-)

Great work, awesome to see this database develop further and further!

Problem with slashes. It doesn't recognise \ slashes that total commander (CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER) produce.. maybe you could always replace such slashes in path by /

Just added the sids for 10 Years. Thinking about it, sorting by HVSC path (thus grouping tunes by the same composer) makes more sense than alphabetic sorting by tune name.

I'm missing still info. I think it could be somehow implemented too. It would be also cool if the still info was extedndable (editable) in CSDB and then reexported back to HVSC format ;-)).

Just an idea (I hope I don't cause a landslide of work for us with this): Make a checkbox if a sid isn't in HVSC. Make that info accessible to interested people (like the HVSC Crew).

\ now equals / when adding SIDs. :)

Ideas about sorting and still noted.
I can see the idea about the Still info, and I am keeping the idea in mind when thinking about future expansions for this. :)

@Steppe: Not sure what you mean about a checkbox? Where?
If you are thinking about trying to add a SID which is not in HVSC, and therefor you can not add it, I think it should just not be possible for now. When I get around to making the 'upload a SID' feature that would be the other option.

Good.

Perff. He means it for standard CSDB music releases which doesn't have entry in CSDB (yet)

And possibility to display list of tunes marked this way.

@Perff: In the edit page, maybe right below the sid search form.

0 This sid isn't in HVSC, someone please rip it.

Geddit? We HVSC folx could check back here regularly, call the page with "sids that need ripping" (you have to make this, of course, but a very simple list will do). Then we check the release, rip the sid (if needed), and uncheck the checkbox (probably even with another checkbox saying "It's ripped now, don't waste your time anymore".)

Maybe I'm taking it all too far, just give me a slap on the forehead to get me back into reality. ;-)

args that will take forever to tag all our releases with the proper sids =P

one thing that would be nice.... an option to flag what sid was used where, like intro/game for cracks or part# for demos, notefile etc

edit: btw i found another ripping challange for you: Mongobong =)

Argh, that would take even longer to tag correctly... But right, a "nice to have". People can still leave the corresponding field empty if it's too much of a hassle.

Ouch, digis over FLI... that calls for Inge or J0x...
Wasn't that just a tune that falls into the category "one looped sample played over and over again" anyway? I have a faint memory about having inspected this little demo in the past already.

Hmph.

Reset and sys 4096 to get just the music from the main part.
I'll finish a proper rip tomorrow while I'm killing time at work :)

This is very cool. But will the links change after HVSC-updates so that we don't have to update them manually if a tune is moved to somewhere else in HVSC?

Yes! :)
The HVSC-path is not the key-index of the SIDs, so they can be changed without that effecting which SIDs are linked to what releases.

Great! And then of course, sub-tune support! :)

its not one looped sample but 5 or 6 very short ones (there is hardly space in memory for anything else), and it even uses the normal sid voices for a (admittedly kinda subtle) bassline.

Oh yeah, and it's not even FLI, just MCI. So it shouldn't be a big deal. Six has taken care of it, it seems.

Then the story you tell in the scroller is wrong. It says that it's non-fli interlace. But whatever... ;-)

that refers to the oldish demo that inspired me to do this (it uses a regular fli pic with samples).

Added a little thing on the Misc. Stat page: http://noname.c64.org/csdb/funstuff/stat.php?view=usedsids_all
which might help people inspire linking SIDs. :)

How about adding commenting and maybe also (transparent ;-) voting to teh sids? ;-) But that's just wannabe improvement, I don't force you. The "still info" displayer has more priority for me.
